Pheno Hunt - Golden Tiger

In about 7-8 weeks I will be using the pollen of my selected males from 36 plants, I'm looking for a male that passes on the long lasting, stimulating effects that certain phenotypes have to offer. I'll be using these males against one particular female, but as a back up I'll be using 2nd and 3rd mother plants.

(Plushberry x Cuvee f2) #7 - Velvet cake pheno

(Plushberry x Cuvee f2) #5 - Cherry/burnt rubber/vomit pheno

(Plushberry x Cuvee f2) #51 - Black Cherry/Onion pheno

The offspring should be polyhybrids.

Black cherry onion??

I'll be damned but that actually made my mouth water. Interesting plants. Sure look fat. Sounds like a cool cross with the Golden Tiger.

What does golden tiger taste like?
It depends on phenotype, there are 3-4 you will reliably find in 50 or so seeds. Some are rarer because they are recessive phenotypes. The malawi dominant phenos usually smell tropical/spice and sometimes carrots, the Thai dominant varieties provide spicy/woody and funky/rotten phenos, I found some carry a berry like scent.
The pheno I had in 2018-2019 was honey-granola, sweet and spicy and it was among 40+ other plants that I chose from. I have a few smelling like that from stem rub, some close to maple syrup. A few are on the tropical end, like ripe Mango and pineapple.

Do you select the male using the stem rub method? I have 3 fem GTs going but not sure I have the space to carry it on due to my space constraints and the volume we need so we don't run out 😋
I was toying with the idea of making a GT x Mango Chutney (Somango x Western Winds) but it might still be too tall for me

Take clones, flower them when they are under a foot tall. I judge males by growth/smell and ability to tolerate stress, and most of all, how their offspring turn out.

The progeny is all that really matters, not stem rub or whatnot, if you know the phenotype and see it it male form, then stem rub/smell can be a helpful criteria to pinpoint breeding material.

Very interesting project! Most say that testing the progeny is pretty much the only way to be sure about the quality of a male. But I read DJ short saying he actually smokes the male's flowers to get an idea of the potency it carries. Ever done that?

Best of luck :))

His word isn't better than raw results, whichever males produces the best offspring isn't determined by which males smoke the nicest. He also considers some herms to be "super males", like his early blueberry was reliant on these "males" and the blueberry line was notorious for producing balls or nanners under stress.

I have 2 males being revegged and used for seed making, late June they will be ready for germination and several female phenos will be flowering again by then too, with a few new males to cross into Golden Tiger (Cheese Quake, Jesus OG, Afghani Shit Show, Agent Orange).

I didn't say his word was the law, I just thought it was interesting 🤷‍♂️

Okay, 2 years down the road and so far i consider the Hybridization project a success, lots of variations resembling my favorite phenotypes, nothing i smoked in the f1 generation was Inferior to the generation that preceeded it, sexual stability remained the same for most plants.
I based my selections from the f1's on which were the most stable females that had the best effects and resilience to pests. I am growing the offspring f2's now for f3 production. I like the f2 smells more than the f1's, but just slightly.

Good to see you stuck at it (y)
I was thinking of growing my last seeds and doing a repro, but not sure I have the space. My son was saying just the other day that out of all the strains I've grown this is the best by far! and I've grown a few!
I don't know if the new seed is the same but I purchased mine from Attitude Seed Bank in 2021 ish and no telling how long they sat there prior so I might do a seed run to freshen up my stock :)
