If you are in a crunch and can only get grocery store items:

PH Up: Baking Soda
PH Down: Lemon Juice

Otherwise go to a hydro store or go online and buy PH Up/Down, it will be worth it in the long run

Note that when you use baking soda and lemon juice the pH will only stay that way for a certain amount of time. pH buffers not included.

Baking soda and lemon juice are definately a stop gap ONLY! They will kill your plants if you continue to use these.

Use BS and lemon juice only untill you get a bottle of up and down.

I have a question, i got a ph kit from the hydro store and i tested my ph. my ph is around 5.0 so how much ph up should i use. i keep my water in a 1gallon jug and mix my nuts in it before i feed the plants every other day.

Use aquarium PH from walmart instead of lemon juice / BS for a temporary fix

As much as you need. Use a baby syringe to add 0.1 ml pH Up to one gallon of water and note the rise. Work it out from there.

How is your water so acidic?

Don't do this. Those products are not for use around plants/animals that will be consumed.

Use the Baking soda or lemon juice instead and get real pH up/down asap.

Citric acid is NOT stabile

And what do you mean aquarium pH up and down isn't intended for plants/animals?
What do you put in aquariums?

Aquarium Ph down is Phos. acid - plants need phos.

Depending on your water- pH can vary wildly with citric acid - set it - check it a few hours later and it's vastly different.

You prolly have different water, but save the lemon juice for the morning tea.

I used it and it was fine, and it says on the bottle "safe for plants", baking soda is sodium as in salt buildup. The aquarium stuff and the hydro stuff have the same ingredients too, hmmm....

Some of the aquarium PHers have "combined adjusters for buffered effectiveness", "three electrolytes to help maintain osmotic balance", "one slime coat ingredient for skin protection and stress reduction", I used this stuff for over a month, the only issue I had was it was weak as shit to adjust the PH

@Rocky after reading his post a 2nd time I realize he said "that will be consumed", I wouldn't worry about it really, the plant takes what it needs

What is in the aquarium stuff that can "transfer to my smoke"? I thought it was phosporic acid ( phosphorous is already present in your nutes anyways! ). I used it for like 8 plants in soil and I'm still here!

Ok so you can spell better! lol

I'd rather not get into nitric and sulfiric - and hydrochloric acids but all can be benificial in the correct dose - and all are organic and are used by plants

Long as the garden rocks - that is the goal.

While lemon juice and vinegar sound real green and organic - they are not the better choice for the job and should be left in the kitchen

Ph tends to drift anyway - make a 5 gallon bucket of ph adjusted water - and it will change over time - but it changes a hella lot more with unstabile acids and the last thing I need in my garden is anything unstabile.

Safe for plants.... yep. Sure is.

I'm not a plant though and my meds are just that..... medicine. I medicate 24/7/365 so any 'minimal' contaminant is not going to be minimal to me.

Unless a product is labeled as safe for food, it's most likely using chemicals for stabilizers that aren't good for you. I don't really care what the base ingredient is, that's not where the contamination issue is.

Use the citric acid and deal with it's short lived effectiveness...... Online shipping from a hydro/nursery will only take a few days.

It's your body though.... I happen to be very careful about what I put into mine.

Bingo! While suitable for emergencies, kitchen solutions should be avoided as their effectiveness is measured in hours.
