PH To High

Hi again folks, just tested some runoff from the RockBud clones and the ph came in HIGH! I have a shitty gh test kit, and it looks to be in the 7-8 range.

My question(s) is, this; Im using fox farms light warrior as a medium at this stage. Would this be considered soiless? Im guessing it is. So if it is indeed soiless, my ph should be in the 5.8-6.4 range, am I correct? So, if it is, whats the best way to bring it down? I read in the sick plant thread on things that would bring it down (ie lime), but not sure how one would apply it, and at what levels? I have a gh ph up/down kit, but the way it said it would burn my hands, made me not want to put it in the dirt, and it says nothing about soil just hydro. Also I just watered, so should I wait for it to dry out? Or just fix the problem now.

Sorry for the string of questions. Stay irie!

I use the GH test kit, make my water mixes into 1 gallon juggs, and then pH.

On average it takes 1ml (the entire dropper) of pH UP to bring me into the high 5's, low 6's. I have a system down to where every time I feed with similar amounts, I need 1ml of up. So sometimes I check for Quality Control but other times, since sourse water and nutes are all the same, I add up without even looking. You need to get a feel for you own method/system...

A fresh mix of mine sits in the low 5s without pH'ing.

Wish I had a digital pH meter for precision (soon..)

But the GH test strips come out DEEP RED. I would say high 4, or low 5s.

This is RO water, 6 stage.. and I'm just starting to use it as of two weeks now.

Prior I would use Local spring water with a pH of 6-7, fairly neutral, and my mixes required 1ml of up.

Now with the RO in the 5s, I'm noticing I need 2mls each feed...

Awesome guys, my filtered water comes in in the 6.5 to 7 range. So you think adding 1ml/gal of ph down from the gh kit would be a good start to see what range its in? Since my ph is in the 7-8 should I get the water I feed with to say 5-5.5? Or do I just use water at the ph Im trying to get. Example; If I want my ph at 5.8 use water adjusted to 5.8.

Or do I make up for the difference its over and example; give water adjusted to 3-4?

I have no idea if that makes any sense to anyone else, try to describe what Im thinking is hard, lol. I have a terrible time explaining myself. :chin:

yes it does...if its to high than you want to adjust your water lower than you want the actual ph because of the equation of the ph already in your medium verses what you are adding

dont know what makes up your fox farm meium, but if it is truely soiless you want every feeding to be at 5.8ph ... and 1 ml of PH down is prob WAY to much to get the ph to 5.8... it generally just takes me 4-5 drops of GH ph down to get my nute mix from 6.5ish to 5.8

Yeah, I was fiddling around with the ph kit, 1ml brought it down in the under 4 range, hah, too much! I finally got a handle on it. Next water Ill hit them with some adjusted water in the 5-6 range. I really need to get a ph pen, I have a feeling it would make life a little easier. The whole adjusting slowly over time, is that only for hydro applications?

And thank you for all the help, I love this place. I have a feeling this is gonna be a good run.

my question is how often should i calibrate my ph meter?
