ph question

Here ya go dude. This will get you in the right direction. You want your runoff ph to be around 6.5. So a ph of about 6.8 or so, going in would be good. Just make sure to mix ph buffers into your soil beforehand. Like a Tbsp of dolomite lime per gallon if soil would work just fine, to buffer your ph. Feed sparingly! Listen to what your plants tell you.

I got a little confused by brother monk

IMO 6.5 - 6.8 are pretty ideal

slightly acidic.... however some might say 6.0 - 7.0

As far as the comment of brother monk

Im not sure how a soil ph of 6.8 can get you run off of 6.5

Starting with 7.0 water

I would expect runoff of 6.8 with a soli ph of 6.5

That is starting with neutral water the run off would establish the direction but be less than the medium....

for example.... if your medium was 6.0 and you tested the runoff of 7.0 water I would expect a runoff of 6.2 or 6.3 something like that....

I would expect that from what brothermonk said starting from 6.8 and runoff at 6.5 the soil ph would be in the low 6's.....

fine if thats what you indended....

If your water has a pH of 6.8 and you get runoff of 6.5, then you are correct the soil would be in the low sixes. HOWEVER, as far as availability of nutrients to the plants go, I BELIEVE you go by the runoff, as that is the acidity of the soil in the pot when the plants are fed. Sure, the soil is in the low sixes, but each time you are feeding with ph adjusted water you are "buffering" the soil back to where you want it.....

I think I had a hard time getting this thought into words, hope you understand what Im getting at. I have had no problems with ph using this method = keeping my RUNOFF as 6.5. Even if your soil is ph 4, and you put in ph adjusted water of 9, you would get a runoff of 6.5 . Peace, and good luck !

For clarity...I meant water/nutrients going in at 6.8-7.0 and runoff hovering around 6.4-6.6. This is what works for me. But I also add dolomitic lime to my mix...which buffers rather well.
