7.1 isn't high enough to kill your plants right away, you don't have to panic. You need to check the pH of your water/nutrient solution. If you adjust that to about 5.5 - 6 or so before watering, your soil pH should come down fairly quickly.

Good luck.

Apple cider vinegar works very well lowering the ph of your water (and can be aquired in organic versions as well).

My tab water is ~8 and I simply use 4ml / liter AVC to get it to around 6.5.

Some have experienced that their water then resturn to high ph after a while, but I dont see that. It's rock steady over several days...

Food grade citric acid is my pH down of choice......it is pretty easy to find at health food stores......i think it is the primary ingredient of that squeeze lemon juice stuff that is in the plastic bottle shaped like a lemon.....

Hey there!

My tap water jumped a whole point in the last week and i needed a quick fix for it and this post was exactly what i needed! Your recommendation of 4ml/liter dropped my reservoir a whole two points. It was too far, but now i know i only need 2ml/litre. Great tip, thanks for the help!
