BTW not growing at this location, so grow ops are not an issue.
I transfered the PGE into my name back in November and when i check the website..it says im registered there, but for some reason i never got any charges, neither by mail or online.

i figured they were slipping so i let it ride...not sure what i was thinking...i figured if people were stealing juice and not getting caught i wasnt in bad shape for "not knowing" about the bills.

well finally, last week a PGE guy came by, asked if the house was registered and about smart meters, etc (my house has NO smart meter)..my roomate told him it was online but never saw a bill from them.

dude started talking about how PGE wanted backpayment until November. He also left a service report saying our dryer hookup was unsafe. but no remarks other than that...my roomie told him he had no idea and seemed to think they wouldnt do anything but just start a new billing cycle.

what are the legalities on this. do i legally have to notify them if im not getting charged? i thought since its THEIR fault for not billing me, even after i registered online, i shouldnt be to blame. the house was in foreclosure during the summer so the previous tenants stopped paying. but when i moved in it was running again and i was registered...

I could just blame the landlord though? im close with landlord but im not trying to get anyone notified about PGE problems. because i want to eventually run a 5k in there...house was clean the worker should not have found anything suspicious.

Blame for what, not paying the bill? As you said, you received no bills.

That said, I'd pay. Especially if I planned a future grow.

If what they are asking for is legit, then give them their money, no need to start trouble with the electric company.

Yeah I had something similar happen, they installed a smartmeter but didn't update my account with the new meter # for months, so last month they call and say "hi, we're billing you for everything since the meter was installed."

Sadly, that's $8500 for 3 months of power. Ouch.

That same thing happened to me on the east coast the then a bill came for some out outrageous amount. They attached some 'payment plan notice' to the bill. I figured naturally, ok i would push back a little but if push came to shove i would pay up since i was still growing there.. (5 - 7k watts that year) yeah, well they sent someone out to make sure the meters work and everything (basically give us a hard time) and about 2 weeks later the cops came for a knock and talk. needless to say we wrapped up and bounced but i'm just saying...

having the electric company know u from jim doesn't help shit.

read the back of your service contract

probably says something along the lines of, in teh case of billing malfunction, user will be billed and average rate for the time of the malfunction

I tried to to fight the natural gas folks a while back for a busted meter, and I did not get anywhere

Balanced paymenty program helps, a series of $3400 payments will ensue shortly. Check your power company for payment centers, many have cash kiosks where you can deposit your payment and not even see a person.

Oh and nope, they didn't care a bit, no questions.
