Penis-Whitening Laser Procedure Goes Viral in Thailand
Updated | A Thai clinic more used to promoting cosmetic surgeries such as breast augmentation on its social media channels has gone viral for a less well-known procedure to change the pigmentation of the skin on the penis.
A Facebook post written by an employee of Bangkok’s Lelux Hospital promoting the procedure has received nearly 20,000 shares and more than 10,000 comments, mostly baffled or bemused, often tagging another person. The video uploaded with the post showed a man lying on a clinic’s table as the doctor seemingly performed the laser procedure and had been viewed more than 4 million times by Thursday.
“No pain, no need to recover,” read the post written by Atittayapa Photiya, a clinic employee who had previously successfully sparked social media conversations about another of the clinic’s procedures, the so-called 3-D Vagina. That procedure involved injecting a patient’s own fat into the mons pubis to achieve a more pronounced, plumper look. Photiya also posted about a laser whitening procedure for female genitalia, although that post was shared less widely.
While in some parts of the world beauty standards push people to seek a tanned look, in other countries such as Thailand the trend is to make one’s skin look whiter, either via laser procedures or skin products. Several of these have caused controversy, including stirring accusations of promoting racism, such as a January 2016 commercial featuring a slogan “Whiteness makes you win,” as The Guardian reported at the time.
The Lelux Hospital in Bangkok began offering the penis-whitening procedure six months ago after one of its clients complained about dark pigmentation on his groin, French news agency Agence France-Presse reported. It has since performed the procedure on dozens of patients.
“These days a lot of people are asking about it. We get around 100 clients a month, three to four clients a day,” Bunthita Wattanasiri, a manager for the Skin and Laser department at Lelux Hospital told AFP, adding that most clients are between 22 and 55 years old.
The procedure is performed over several sessions, each costing about $155, according to German news agency dpa, or $650 for five sessions.
“We use the same pigmentation laser equipment employed in other skin treatments. All of the equipment received certification [by Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health],” Popol Tansakul, Lelux’s marketing manager, told dpa. According to him, the procedure is so popular, clients need to book at least a week in advance. He said so far no one reported issues.
However, authorities in Thailand have expressed concern about the procedure's health risk. “The skin of the private parts is sensitive. Such laser services may cause irritation, allergies and inflammation,” Dr. Thongchai Keeratihuttayakorn, deputy director-general of the Health Service Support Department said in a statement issued by the Ministry of Public Health. Warning that the procedure may also impact the reproductive system, the doctor summarized: "It's not worth the money."
This article was updated to include Dr. Thongchai Keeratihuttayakorn's statement.

Yeah, its crazy out in Asia.

All the white Western ladies over there are basking in the sun, trying to get their white bodies brown, and all the local ladies are purposely staying out of the sun and using skin whitening chemicals/creams to make their brown bodies white...

....and now this whole whitening craze has gone 'down below'....by the looks of it.

Doctors warn you have to be nuts to try penis whitening: Laser treatment fad won't

provide permanent results and could leave scars

Experts warn the procedure could cause infection, scarring and infertility

Dr Mingkwan said there was no evidence to show the process was safe

Patient's bodies will produce the melanin pigment and reverse the results

Doctors have warned people paying for an expensive penis whitening procedure in Thailand that the treatment risks infertility and its effects are temporary.

More than 100 men a month have been making a pilgrimage to The Lelux Hospital in Bangkok which began offering the unconventional treatment six months ago.

After a surge in the its popularity experts have warned the procedure could cause infection scarring and, in rare case, infertility.

Director of Thailand's Department of Medical Services Dr. Mingkwan Wichaidit said that a penis is bound to return to its natural color. Our bodies will continue to produce melanin, the pigment that gives our skin its distinct tone.

Over time, this natural process will reverse the expensive laser treatment. Side effects, she added, could include infection and serious scarring.

Dr. Mingkwan noted there was still no evidence to suggest the process was 100 per cent safe on any kind of genital area.

Deputy director of the Health Service Support Department Dr. Thongchai Teerahattayakorn added that penis whitening could potentially affect men's fertility.

He added that the department had instructed officials to investigate whether The Lelux Hospital had violated the Sanatorium Act which prevents private medical institutes from using a third party to advertise on their behalf.

Hospitals that do so are liable to be fined at least $620, reported Coconuts Bangkok.
The much-hyped procedure, a laser treatment of the groin, has left the public both baffled and alarmed, but the clinic says they have more inquiries than ever.

'These days a lot of people are asking about it. We get around 100 clients a month, three to four clients a day,' Bunthita Wattanasiri, a manager for the Skin and Laser department at Lelax Hospital told AFP.

The procedure got wide play on Thai television and social media on Thursday after the hospital released images of a man undergoing the treatment.

'We have to be careful because it's a sensitive part of the body,' Bunthita said, adding most clients are aged between 22 and 55, with many from Thailand's LGBTQ community.

The whitening service costs around £480 for five sessions.

'I think it's a good market to enter so we offer the ultimate body treatment to our clients, either men and women,' Bunthita said.

Whitening and bleaching treatments are particularly sought after in Thailand, where skin-whitening ads have caused outrage and accusations of racism.

'The obsession... people nowadays can't embrace their own skin color,' said one Facebook user in response to the Lelax Hospital's images.

Another user Parin Ruansati posted: 'Oh god... what ever happened to the world?'

Another simply questioned; 'Why not?'.

THE NEXT BEAUTY TREND? INTIMATE BLEACHING AND PENIS WHITENING
Undergoing procedures to lighten the skin of the genitals, anus or groin area has become increasingly popular in the past year.

Laser bleaching of private areas is carried out by using a type of laser which damages or kills the cells that produce melanin - the pigment that gives skin its colour.

Most clients have to undergo a few laser sessions before achieving a desired result, and each session usually takes 10-15 minutes.

Laser bleaching comes with small risks of infection and scarring, and should always be carried out in a professional clinic setting.

Skin lightening can also be carried out at home using a bleaching cream.

However, professionals recommend to visit a clinic before embarking on any at-home treatments as bleaching creams can cause damage if not applied correctly.

This is particularly important when bleaching the sensitive skin on the genitals or anus.

Popularity of bleaching private parts has been linked to several high-profile celebrities, such as Kourtney Kardashian, publicly admitting to having these procedures done.

HB Health of Knightsbridge, a leading medical aesthetic clinic based in London, reported a 23 per cent increase in the number of people - men and women - asking for anal bleaching in 2017.

I know in the phillipines they sell skin bleaching products because during the colonial era the French would basically say that all you people are inferior because of the color of your skin. so if you want to get anywhere in life you gotta whiten up! this went on all over French Indochina. pretty insane.

Meh... I don't need this treatment. I'm just about the whitest 'cracker' you'll ever see. The stuff hidden from light will make people snow-blind.

Its not a racial thing. Some peoples bits are darker than the rest of them and they want them to match. I have to admit, I prefer a ladies bits to be the same colour as the rest of them, whatever that shade is, I want it to be uniform. a black woman with white bits would be just as unattractive as a white woman with brown bits. Its about it all matching, not the supremacy of white. As has been pointed out, there is more social pressure for whites to darken themselves. Its a form of brown supremacy but nobody says fake tan is racist.
