PC Grow #1: Sugar Candyland!

My first grow ever, and in a PC no less! I’m not sure what to expect, all I know is that it’ll be a learning experience. I’m really excited about it. A big challenge for me.

Thanks to everyone here for lots of great resources on how to build a case, I’ve found so many good ideas.

Right now, my girl (being optimistic here) is on day 5 since sprouting. I germinated the seed in the pot she’s in now, she germinated and sprouted in about 4/5 days. I think the growth is looking good. She seems a little darker than lots I’ve seen, or maybe just a little bit wrinkly, but seems to be in good shape. I had her very close to the light (closer than in the first picture) for the first few days then moved her down a bit. Not much stretch at all (not sure if that’s good or bad). Take a look, would love to know how she looks for her fifth day.

The details

Strain: Sugar Candy (Feminised) from Delicious Seeds
Light: 75w LED UFO
Soil: FFOF, no nutrients yet—strictly pH 6.5 water so far
Ventilation: I made two exhaust fan/scrubber units—each has two 80mm PC fans with a little box containing carbon filter material inside it stuck in-between. They are assembled with long lengths of screw and wing nuts so I can take apart and fix, refill, etc. as needed. One big passive air intake utilizing ScrubNinja’s awesome design.
Temps: The daily temp ranges from 22C/62F(dark)-28C/72F(light), and the humidity ranges from about 35-55% daily.

I will try my best to post regular pictures, thanks for checking it out. Looking forward to learning from you all!

Hi, nutansahyat!

Welcome to the world of microgrow! ))
It's definitely going to be a huge experience for you - fingers crossed for your success!

What a FFOF soil is? How do you measure and correct the pH level?
Temps are :good:.

The pictures aren't visible - did you set them private or smth? Will you post pictures of your growbox?

Wish you a flawless grow!

S.V., hello and thanks! Sorry about the images, I had them set to "private." I set them to "public," so you should be able to see them now.

FFOF is the Fox Farms Ocean Forest potting soil. For now, I am just using a pH meter to test the water I am putting into my plant. I adjust tap water to a pH of about 6.2-6.5 for my seedling.

Hello nutansahyat! I have a very similar setup, PC grow with 75w ufo led. I'm also on my first grow ever, and right now im on week 6. I did a lot of LST, but it's too bad that the best one just showed sex and its a male.

Good luck!

Linha, sorry to hear your best plant turned out male. But it sounds like you had more than one plant going? Have you had any other problems or learned anything interesting from your setup? Sounds pretty similar to mine. Would be curious to hear more about how it's been going for ya!

I started with 3 plants, in very small containers, 1 each week, because my idea was to try to find the best time to switch to 12/12. They became rootbound in about 3 weeks, so I decided to transplant to a bigger one. Thing is, the 3 new containers fit in the case, but one plant was getting barely any light, so I gave it to a friend. Now out of the two left, the oldest one was born during a holiday which I was out of town, and spent 2 days with no light at all and became very stretched. I used a stick to tie her up and she showed very good development, but I lost a lot of vertical space. She is doing nice, gave her a bigger container yesterday. The male was the newest one, and I experimented some LST very early and it worked great. With 4 weeks, he was very short, with 5 "main tops" already.

I switched to 12/12 on day 21 of the youngest, so 28 for the middle one and 35 for the old streched one. The old one is getting out of control, and that vertical space I lost is making things more difficult.

The one I gave to me friend is back, stretched a lot since it was outdoor at his place. I will have to tie it up a lot for LST and wait around 10 days to see the sex. It's been a great journey, I'm very amateur. I'm waiting for a thermometer/humidity control to arrive and I will get a Ph/TDS meter for the next cycle. I will get some pics going sometime.

That sounds like a good plan. I dig it. So what’s the verdict, do you think it was better to switch to 12/12 on day 21 or day 35? It’s somewhat relative, I know, but I’m trying to figure out how I decide when to flip as well.

I would love to see any pics of how you trained your plants if you got ‘em. I think I’m going to train mine around in a circle around the edge of the pot (more or less) and see how that goes. Not sure if I should top it or not. For my first grow, I’m thinking not.

I think 35 days on veg for a PC grow was too much. She was pretty big when I switched to 12/12, I'm sure it will be a challenge to keep her in control now. I think between 3 to 4 weeks for veg is good enough. If the plant is showing very good development I guess 21 days is perfect, otherwise let it veg for another week.

Mine was easy to train because since the beginning the new leaves were growing. I'm not sure how to say, but lot of those secondary nodes were appearing. I've grown outdoors before and I have never seen such a thing, so I guess its the LED that makes those new nodes show up, so basically I tied her up in a way to make light and fan breeze to reach them, and they responded very well.

The one I didn't top was my favorite one, the male. I tied the main steam since like day 10 or 12, and it has grown in like a 45 degree angle, with the main top always tied and those secondary branches getting light and developing.

Right. Good to know. I think my plan will be not to top this one, but to stay vigilant in training it. Maybe start training at about day 10/11 or so and see what happens. Based on your results, I think I’ll plan to switch to 12/12 at about the three-week mark unless it feels too small.

Updated pics. These are day 8 from sprout. Seems to be growing well, but the newer leaves seem a little splotchy (?) and the oldest leaves have the slightest curled tips. I tried to look into it, could be some heat stress? The temps in my box don’t go higher than 28C/82F so I think my temps are good, but I think maybe I had the light too close. Probably 6-8 inches away. I moved it down to about 12-14 inches so we’ll see if that helps.

The distance is something I'm still not sure what's best, I guess anything works because the light is very close already.

Here is what I got, my first indoor grow:

This is the oldest one, which stretched a lot. That's like day 5 or something. I had barely any faith in it, and all I did was tie her in a stick and put it very close to a fan.

Here is her with 20 days, in a new pot and after topping. The one in the left is a week younger, and you can see the big difference of the initial stretch is making.

Day 30, started LST, very late. Switched to 12/12 on day 35.

Day 40

This is today, day 53, week 3 of flowering. Using a bigger pot, maybe too big, lets see. The one on the left is the one that spent 15 days at my friends, outdoors, it's on 12/12 for a week and I'm waiting to show sex. I have no pics from the male one, which had a very nice LST going.

I don't see the images? It might be that you have your gallery set to "private." I had the same problem the time I tried to post an image.

The big one looks like it's doing pretty good! Is the other one small just because it was neglected by your friend? What is the strain? I wonder if having one plant closer to the light keeps it shorter...but it seems like it'd get more light and be growing better? Not sure. Anyway, looks like it's coming along good.

Updated pics below: Day 13/14 from sprout. Topped the plant (one pic before and one pic after topping), and there's some growth underneath that is starting to grow faster now.

The other one is a Mexican Sativa, Eldorado..I started with 3 of them, and they were kinda slow since the beginning. Friend of mine gave me the seeds, from a cross he did. The bigger one is bagseed, which I believe is getting close to harvest, I guess around 4 weeks, not sure..and she has some overfert going, let's see what happens. The smaller one ended up being female, as she is doing ok, in the "worst" spot.
