Hello there sticky,

You need a replacement power supply, the kind used for powering things like portable cd players and such. They have them at radio shack. You can run two fans off of one and it will work fine. They also have an adjustable power output, the higher the voltage the faster the fan. Alternately you can just use any old ones you might have lying around, 12v is good, but 9v will work too. Just stip the wires and connect the one with the stripe to the red wires of the fans and the one without the stripe to the black wires. The voltage is very low and will not hurt you so no worries, but do use wire nuts or wrap them in electrical tape. You can run two or more but each one you add will lower the speed of all of them. If you want them all to be fast you'll need a power supply for each.

Also if you are growing in a tub I would recommend just having a passive intake, active exhaust and a fan for air movement.

I think if you ask the guy/gal at Radioshack, they will be more than happy to help you. Just tell them what you want, not what u want it for (or lie and say it's for your PC Mods). Peace.

I just got three PC fans in the mail. They each draw 12v and 0.45a, which is 450mA. If I put two of those on there I would be at 900mA, which is 90% of the maximum. I don't think I'd want to go any higher than that, most places say use 80% or something but I'm not sure if it's as much of an issue here. I got my converters from http://www.surpluscenter.com/sort.a...rd=EPPD&catname=electric&UID=2006091508140600, they've got some good prices. If you only need one it'd probably be cheaper to go to radioshack, but I needed three so it worked out for me.

good luck

i used a printer adapter..and some adapter... picked up somewhere.. but my fans have a higher voltage.

Do they make 110-120 volt ac ones? where to get them ? less converting to dc would be alot easier.

LIGHT BULB!!!! anyone ever think for using a battery charger for a car? mine has 2 - 10- 50 amp settings. i bet some one with a great background in ELECTRICS might be able to figure out the best way for this to work. or i guess u could just set it to like 10 amps and i bet u could run 4 of them off that?????

Radioshack does have a 120v pc fan, just type 273-242 on radioshacks search and you'll see it.

I highly reccomend using VDC pc fans and a 12 ac/dc converter/powersupply, because theyre alot safer.

It's really simple:

Take your computer fan into Radio Shack and tell the guy, "I want to be able to plug this into the wall and make it run. What do I need?"

You'll get a 12 Volt power supply and a small adapter to connect the fan to the power supply. Total cost will be around $20 for the power supply and adapter thingy.

If you need to get a fan, too, Radio Shack does sell AC fans, which have the power supply built intothe fan. Then, you just use a regular 2-pronged electrical cord taken off an appliance you don't need, or you can buy an electrical cord to attach to the fan.

A word of caution about the AC fans: because the power supply is already built in, they are much heavier than the DC fans.

Get those lights closer to the plants! 2-3 inches away max, closer if you can do it.

Good luck.

so here is what i did....
1. found an old laptop converter 120-240 ac to 19 vdc.
2. got 2-120mm 12vdc pc fans from the shack.
3. wired those bitches in series. = 9.5 volts each
4. hooked them up the converter.
5. BAM. nothin left to do but install them
6. INSTALLED

Just genius Sticky!!! nice and simple...
Any cell phone charger will do the job as well... they convert 8 or 9 volts to 120-240v.

Um, what?

You most certainly can convert DC to AC.

Or did I misunderstand your statement?
