Coffee filters, nylons, sheets of carbon filter material (being black, these actually block some light), aquarium filter pads ...

I have a 4" fan for exhaust (12.56sq. in.) so i planned on cutting 5 2" holes (15.7sq. in.) which is approx. 20% over. Will this be enough once i slow the air flow with the filter?

If I were you, I'd go with 8-10 2" holes, if 2" holes are your cup of tea. Or go with two 4" holes.

I personnaly use those kitchen exhaust filter with a layer of activated filter and a fat filter... They're cheap (7$ max for an half square meter), very easy to use (I just stapple it) and efficient if changed on few months basis. Since I use it, I've felt like my scrubber last longer.

2X intake is for the cab, not the filter. Two holes in, one hole out. Area of filter intake is a bit trickier. The only formula I've seen is here in post#1

I buy the replacable air conditoner filters from hemp depot/lowes, then cut to desired size. Once a week i wash them out and good to go. Some are elctostaticaly active, which wears out over time.
