Hi.

Anyone who has attended university after the internet age has heard a professor state that they can tell if you plagiarized your essay. Because they run it through some search program, that searches the entire net.

Does this technology exist? What is it called?

Could it be used here?

Could someone take a certain member's posts, then scan it and compare it to blog post on social network sites in order to get a match, and find out their identity?

peace.

Google. Seriously. My ex-girlfriend busted some students that way.

People are stupid AND lazy. But I guess that's why they're cheating to start with.

Saw something about Google Glass and an app that would run a persons image and seach the web to see if there is a match on any social site. Was within the last month or two I caught something about this on Fox. Cannot remember whether the app was out already though. :dunno:

There is lots of software out there, just do a search for 'plagerism checker'.

Students can't get away with anything anymore.

I wouldn't plagairaize anything, you would only be failing yourself and not really learning. I never did it. Love footnotes.

The point of the post was to see if for example:

Is it possible to take a person's post here at icmag, run it through a search engine, then based on patterns figure out who we are when it's matched up against a social network blog post.

Everyone has a writing style. Is there an algorithm that can flush out a person's identity?

..... it's only a matter of time.

Does anyone remember the Unibomber?

His sister-in-law recognized his rhetoric and writing style when the Washington Post agreed to publish his manifesto.
