Panama x Malawi

I've just harvested a Panama x Malawi (I'm not sure which of the parent plants it was, possibly the Panama Elite and the New Malawi Killer?).
She took her sweet time.
She was grown indoor, flowering started in early JUNE (!) and I cropped her at the end of November on an 11/13 light schedule from start.
The lower branches exhibited a lot of foxtailed flowers, with the upper flowers being much larger and impressive. There are a couple of pics of the nicer flowers.
So, after a nearly 6 month flowering period, what did I get?
I vapourised the finger hash from the cropping, blew my mind :)
I have had a few balloons (Volcano) of the foxtailed lower stuff and it is amazing. I am terrible at describing smell or taste, everything always seems to have a citrus tang to me, but this tastes lovely, the first hit or 2 from the balloon leaves a long lasting flavour, filling the mouth.
The high - well, the high - it's high :) The Panama really seems to influence the Malawi, it's still as strong as ever but the Panama just seems to make it more "comfortable" - it's like being wrapped in a deep, hot bath, long lasting and soaring. There doesn't seem to be a ceiling, and the effects are long lasting.
It is perfect for unwinding, but I imagine it will also be quite motivating for doing stuff. I'll see how it works for playing football this weekend :)
I have worked my way through a good chunk of the Ace sativa catalogue now (Zamaldelica, GT, Malawi and so on) and this is by far the best I have ever had from them. The yield was good, the flowers spectacular - it's doubtful there are many phenos like this, dubi said he has never seen one, so it's a one off for me :)
Thanks dubi and crew, absolutely lovely, will mean I have a very happy chrimble :)

Hi Baron Greenback :)

Thank you very much for sharing your experience with the new Panama x Malawi cross, it's always interesting to receive feedback about new crosses.
If i'm not wrong i think i sent you seeds from both: Old Malawi Killer x Panama and Panama x New Malawi Killer. Do you remember which one did you grow ?

Anyway, i'm glad the outcome has been good and that you rate the Panama/Malawi as the best ACE genetics you have tried so far. ;)

Being a useless and disorganised stoner, no, I have no idea which it was :)
I think it was the New Malawi cross, a friend has the other one and there is a clear difference. His is much more Malawi leaning, tighter flowers, much less foxtailing - I'll post a pic when he gives me a flower or 2.

Will these seeds be made available commercially? (Or if I missed release, Again?)

Sounds amazing. Along with panama x haze, sounds like very strong sativa with good effects.... dubi let her free haha

Hi. Even though its not listed I would contact ACE Seeds directly from their website about these. You might be pleasantly surprised!

That is one scary flowering time. Do you have any idea why it might have gone so long? I love playing with tropical sativas, but I have been burned by some extremely long flowering phenos in the past. I actually completely swore off growing any tropical land race stuff after I had a first generation Zamaldelica go 18 and a half weeks. It really was amazing smoke, but it seriously locked down my entire flowering room for months after everything else had finished. I swore I would never flower it again, but I have always kept a cut of that plant around just because it was so unique.

What sort of lighting were you using? Did you give it a load of nitrogen late in flower?

I grew one Panama x Malawi last year and yes the Panama really tamed the Malawi in the one I grew, fantastic smell and beautiful large buds.
I will have to try it again tomorrow now ha ha. I have been pigging out on panama and GT and completely forgot about it.
It will be nicely aged now and probably a lot stronger.
But mine only took 13 weeks and was perfect at that age.

@The Hatter - I think it was just one of those things, I always hae an 11/13 lighting schedule, and there didn't seem to be any problems.
It's definitely worth having a go on tropical sativas, I think for the future though, I'll put stupidly long flowering things in a small pot and leave them round the edges of the light.

I'm an old school sativa lover so I have tried my hand at some truly long flowering tropical strains in the past, but once bitten twice shy and that year I ran the epic 18 1/2 week Zammy was the year I got to find out how much fun running out of meds is.

These days I set a hard limit at about 14 weeks of flowering which is long enough that it covers most strains outside of the really crazy tropical land race stuff. It's one of the reasons I was looking at this strain. It looks like I shouldn't need to worry about it going long, but then I read your grow report and I am starting to second guess that idea.

I've run Ace Panama before and it was fine when it came to finishing quickly enough, so the only real wild card is the Malawi which I don't have any experience with outside of running the old Zammy which is like a quarter-blood granddaughter of Ace Malawi.

I think I'm still going to give this a try but I will keep an eye out for the more sativa looking phenos. Was there any notable characteristic your crazy long flowering pheno had? For instance was it extremely thin leaved or super stretchy?

Hatter you have more experience with this than I do but I think I just read where dubi said that is best to reduce the lighting schedule to get them to finish earlier. as compared to running a consistent light schedule the whole time.

Thanks for the heads up, but I actually do taper my light schedule down slowly over the course of the last third of flowering. It's solid advice. I'm pretty sure the Panama x Malawi will be alright. Everything in life is a gamble and when it comes to Ace strains I've found the dice are weighted in our favor. :tiphat:
