Panama vs. Tikal (26° N)

Hey ya'll,

I've been doing research on Ace genetics for some time now but I still can't make up my mind as all of their strains look like pure awesomeness! I've boiled it down to two: Tikal and Panama. What are ya'lls opinions and experiences with either or?

I live in S. Florida along the 26° line so the sun and overall weather is perfect to grow a number of things. I am looking to grow a few trees in 100 gal pots and some in 65 gals. They will have all day sun for a minimum of 10 hours per day.

I'm looking for the hardiest sativas for this particular spot. Which one generally yields the most? Potency? Are they picky on nutes or regular waterings?

What are some of your experiences with Ace Seeds. I'm def open to suggestions, btw. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

You really can't go wrong with any of Ace's stuff, but I know that doesn't help much. Grew some Panama a few years ago and I really liked her. Mind is a little foggy on it, but she's a hardy, potent plant that doesn't take forever to finish. I guess it depends on what you're looking for and if you want a super clear/trippy sativa that flowers really long, a sativa with medium flowering, or an earlier flowering sativa. Bangi Haze is one of mg all time favorites from Ace because of its hardiness, shorter flowering time, trich production, funky smell, and potency. Also, Golden Tiger is another great choice. Longer than most commercially available sativa, bug not as long as Haze or Thai. Malawi really helps with the flowering time, bud structure, and other elements. If you have the time and room, I would highly suggest Golden Tiger. The Malawi in it also makes for slightly denser buds, so it may be a bit more susceptible to mold, but you will probably be ok. Also, she yields pretty well from my experience.

Welcome cannawarrior,

Your latitude and weather is perfect to grow big sativas, you can grow almost our entire catalogue there. I'd choose depending on your personal preferences for taste/aroma, type of high and potency. Please, let me know and we will find out the most suitable for your needs.
Kind regards!

Thanks, Dubi. To be honest I've only grown out one sativa/mostly sativa and that was Strawberry Cough. I really liked the taste and high of SC. Im looking for something thats very potent. It doesnt have to be paranoia inducing but more on the social/outgoing side of things.

As far as taste and aroma I really like a strong spicy or outdoor pine vibe to the herb especially since they will be growing in a forest full of Florida pines.

Most importantly are the finishing times. Anything around or under 12 weeks would be perfect!

The Bangi Haze sounds just about perfect. Have you grown this out? How would you describe the taste? Its good that its hardy because I will need it for the high heat in the summer.

Yes, grown a handful out once. Wish i had some more, but it's something that I'll end up ordering soon. Trying to remember the taste, and if I remember correctly, it reminded me of a nice, old school taste and smell, maybe with a little more funk. One of those plants that almost brought me back to the first time I ever smelled my uncle smoking a joint on the couch in the 80s. A little lemony and some skunk in there. The smell is outrageous for a sativa. Something you'd expect to just have a nice piny, lemony, incense smell. But that funk is something else.

why is flowering time important to you? with your climate I'd go with longer flowering, true tropical sativas especially if you're looking for trees and yield. is it a backyard grow or guerilla? how much rain you have during summer and autumn?

Panama is awsome but needs some care and plenty of water from my experience. still hardy plants. had three Nepalese Jams they were ok but compared to Panama or Malawi/Golden Tiger they lack vigour. also the finished product isn't as impresive as those two. Nepalese is a parent plant for Bangi Haze. my guess is that anything with Malawi is guerilla champion, potent as hell and drought resisitant. heard great things about Zamal vigour but have no first hand experience. if watering is an issue then look no further. you're lucky with your climate to grow these plants in their natural enviroment.

Yes its very important that the strain finishes rather early because I will be growing them guerilla.

Kamyo, I may have to get a few beans of the Bangi Haze. I like the old school tokes and I think itd be a great alternative to all of the heavy indicas that are floating around nowadays. People always underestimate the power of the sativa because they are rather rare around here.

Tiami, a few years ago I was sold on Malawi but the grows I read about said they can easily go for 16+ weeks and that kinda discouraged me. I would love to try a hybrid with Malawi. Any experience with Guawi?

What about Tikal fellas? Any opinions about the high and grow of that one?

check out Tikal thread in sticky section here. Panama is preffered south american hybrid among us here though. simply amazing strain. and it's worth ordering directly from Ace site.

16 weeks doesn't meen anything outdoors, most Ace Malawis should finish before end October for you, most Panamas even earlier. get Guawi if you can and you like the idea of it but it won't finish before Malawis. I'm not sure but Guawi seeds might be a bit old. if I was you I'd choose between Panama for unique south american charateristics and early harvest (for you), Malawi Fem for extreme potency 'Killer' pheno and early harvest, Zamaldelica (Fem) for trees you mentioned and trippy high, Purple Haze x Malawi for hazeiness and later harvest and Double Thai because all girls would love me then. Bangi Haze was bred for northern climates and indoor grows but it might be exellant for short season grow foor you.

Hi cannawarrior,

If you are looking for sativas or sativa dominant hybrids under the 12 weeks flowering range then we would recommend you Orient Express, Panama, Tikal, Congo or Nepal Jam.

Malawi, Golden Tiger and Zamaldelica are also great choices for your latitude but they sometimes they need more than 12 weeks to fully finish them.

Hope it helps. dubi

Thanks for all of the replies fellas. I've decided on Tikal, Golden Tiger, and Malawi. Should be getting started within the next month or so and will keep you all up to date with a grow report.

Thanks again!
