I have also heard that spraying seeds with a light film of WD-40 really works well to and is cheap, soften the hull fast, sprout can bust out of the hull quicker, promoted faster growth, thicker stalks. +++
If I have seeds that don`t germinate after 3 days in normal water, I put them out of the water and roll em between two fingers under light pressure until a hear/feel a light crack. Then I put em back in the water. If I did it right and just cracked it lightly rather than destroyed the whole seed, mostly these seeds will open up within the next 12 hours. For old seeds ths works pretty good.
