So im getting some leaf curl (down) on 2 of my plants. Other wise the plants look fine, except for some old yellowing leaves. It looks to me like overwatering but im doing hydro. Could my water level be too high? Right now it's about 1/2 inch away from the bottom of the pots.
Please give a full and accurate description of your grow situation cardboardts.
Include as much details as possible, lighting, temperatures, ventilation & fresh air supply, growing medium, ferts, clones or seedlings, feeding plan, nute strengths and pH and how you're monitoring it, meters etc.
You said you were doing hydro, and asked about water level being 1/2" away from bottom of pots. (err drink cup) wtf are you talking about ? ...is all I can say so far.
From the looks of the picture, you have an overwatered looking plant in a drink cup full of what looks like a soil like medium.
With the lack of info you've provided, I have to assume that you're running some kind of "high drain" soil-less medium and are calling it hydro because of that. <- is this assumption reasonable ?
Yah they where cups that I had holed out and they are basicly net pots. I couldn't find any type of net pots in my area so I made some.
The set up is (for right now aleast) 3 of these cups in a 1 gallon res till I can get them 12/12 ready. I'll then move toward bigger individual reses.
PH is 5.5 to 6, and nutes are flora nova grow at 2 teaspoons per gal atm.
The medium is...well dont laugh..fuck it you'll laugh anyway, styrophome... and verculmite on top. I've grown with this medium before with good results.
The lighting is a 150hps with more than enough air flow with my crazy 90cfm fan.
I thinking though that the roots are not really growing outa the pot cause I have the water level too high and that im not really helping the root grow out that way.
Once I get back from holiday I'll transplant them to a better res. Just wondering if thats whats causing the droop.
I believe the verm is wicking way too much water up into those cups, causing the overwatered situation.
Its a very poor choice for a dwc medium imho.
I suppose you could try to make it work for now, by dropping the water way down so its not splashing up on the cups from the bubbles breaking at the surface, and hand watering when they're drier until you get them transplanted into a better medium. I suggest expanded clay in real net cups. At that point you can proceed with them like a normal dwc.
Belive me i'd love some expanded clay but locally it's apparently EXTREAMLY hard to come by. The verm is only at the very very top to make a nice even layer. Guess i'll need to hit up some on line hydro shops to get the appropriate gear. Thanks for the info!
Hi All !
PH-5.7..EC-0.7 ferts=Super Veg/Bloom--1-16oz cup RO water temp 68--72
& Blast-Off every week
1- 6"x6" grow cube
1- Grapefruit x Haze cutting
feed 1 cup every 3 or 4 days & Blast-Off every week 1 cup
Also 1 cup Maxicrop seaweed every week that's it....there's no reason to feed these cubes 2-4 times a day on a flow table, sure the fert companys want you to, so you use up your ferts quicker and you buy MORE...save your money, and do not believe the sales hype and test results.....and as the plant grows, you feed more often with the same EC level...these cubes hold lots of moisture and air for days, just watch the plant and water and feed when NEEDED only!
