Outdoor summer flowering hood.

hey all,
I'm doing a small seed run at the moment but i really wanted to get them out into some real light for the flowering cycle so i built myself a small 3ft x3ft x4ft enclosure then put a black plastic hood over them. I used builders plastic & duct tape to make the hood a good fit. U gotta love that duct tape, one of the greatest creations for the 'not so handy man'. lol.
I go down & put the hood on at around 7pm then the next morning i take it off again at around 8.30am. i'm doing this every day, bit of a pain in the ass but at least its getting me some badly needed exercise. :chin:
The main reason i deceided to do it this way was that i'm just not comfortable running a HPS under my wooden house. just 1 little electrical fault & our lovely home would go up like tinder.

Heres the male, its a Black Death by Celticstone. Its a strain that is still 'under construction'. The slight purple colouring to the balls is more to do with the cooler temps down here than the strain itself.

The 2 mums i'm seeding up are Lightstorm & bubblious. The Lightstorm is a naturally purpling strain regardless of the temps while the bub has purple traits. They are 20 days into flowering at the moment. The LS & bub were 2 mums i've been taking cuttings from here that i thought it was time they did some real work.

Hey Ratty, looks intersting. Looks like a good way to flower plants during the longer day period. Unless your lazy that is. Best of luck with your project mate.

Is there a stoner in the world who isn't just a little lazy? I sure am. lol its about the only way i can get myself to do a bit of exercise. Twice a day i gotta walk to the bottom of our block & back again. Sure is a pain in the ass but at least my heart remembers how to beat faster.

Hi Rattrap! Last year I built about the same thing in order to force flower a plant, it worked well, but even though I had anticipated and built it big, the plant outgrew it! In about 2 weeks the foliage was touching the black plastic. I used to cover the plant at 4pm, and remove it at night, so I could sleep my ass off in the mornings. I admit I sometimes forgot about it, and had to take it out in a hurry in the morning because of the heat.

Just thought I'd let you know about my experience with it. Good luck!

Hey Relik, thanks for dropping by!
I allowed a good 40-50cm for them to stretch. Plus they spent the first 2 weeks of flowering indoors so they had already done a fair amount of stretching. My dog demands that i get out of bed at a reasonable hour anyways tho its a hell of an effort to drag my sorry ass all the way down there when i'm still half asleep.

If they started flowering indoors then I guess they'll be ok since most of the stretch is done. My plant was in full veg when I did it, I hope yours will turn out fine!

Cheers

G'day Rattrap, I've got a couple of plants I'm doing exactly the same thing to. The first one I pulled not long ago and she turned out dynamite, now I'm struggling to get my ass out of bed for the other 2. lol

Hi folks! I was just thinking, yesterday (dec 21) was summer solstice down here, from now on days will be getting shorter. I'm not saying that you should remove those tents, just thought I'd let you guys know. :joint:

Peace

I do the same thing with large plastic garbage bins.

Relik has the right idea of covering them before sunset and taking them off before bedtime, thus allowing one to sleep in if required.

I like to produce a new seed that can be sown before the summer solstice. It's amusing to produce something new and get to smoke the results within one growing season. I set a small pocketable alarm clock for 5pm and toddle out and cover whatever plants I'm playing with. Plastic garbage bins are handy in any grow and can often be found free during council cleanups. Here's how I use them in a simple compost system for household food waste.

Acquire 3 plastic garbage bins, don't rush out and buy them, they might just turn up if you keep your eye out.

Cut out the bottom of all 3 and place them upside down directly on the ground in a spot that is shaded at all times.

Fill up the first one with kitchen scrapes, and other organic waste until it is full and then fill the second and then the third. Cover with the lid and put a brick on top of the lid to keep animals out. By the time the third one is full the first bin will have been turned into a bin of compost chock full of earthworms.

When spread on the garden expect a lot of seed germination of whatever you have been eating over the past few months. I dig it in and remulch that area and seeds still come through which are either pulled early or transplanted to somewhere else in the garden.

As you fill each bin remember to put dry stuff in occasionally and also give each bin a quick blast from the garden hose once a week. Don't over do the water.

If your's is a large household you might need more than three.

Merry growing and a happy new spliff.

Hey smurf, great to hear it worked for u. I sure know the 'drag your ass outa bed' feeling. lol. To top it off we've been gettiing some badly needed soaking rain which means i've had to go mess with the hood in the rain too! The things we do for our fav herb!
HEy relik, yep, summer solstice has come & gone, we're on the home stretch for the outdoor buds now, WOOHOO!
Hey Twiz, composting is a great idea. We've got an earthworm farm which produces awsome rich compost, worm poo & liquid gold worm wee. I'd never be without it!
Have a merry xmas everybody!
Light a fat 1 for santa!
