Outdoor Organic No-Till 2020

Hey there fellow growers! This year will be my first time posting a "Grow Diary" on this site. I'll be documenting all of the ups and downs of this 2022 outdoor season here in Northern California. Join this thread if you're interested in outdoor organic growing in a Mediterranean Climite. I'm here for all of your helpful commentary and suggestions and to document my grow.

My Normal Process:

I always grow outdoor, and use completely organic soil, nutes, and pest control. I'm a big fan of the no-till natural process, so naturally I reuse my soil each year. After pulling my plant at the end of season, I sprinkle mykos, azos, and bat guano. I then throw cover crop seed liberally- hairy Vetch and red clover. Add one inch layer of compost, wait until next season, and mix cover crop growth into top inch before planting weed plant.

I start my seeds indoors under LED lights, and then move outdoors into big pots after spring equinox and after lows are above 50F.

This Year

Strains-
6 White Widow feminized seeds from "ilovegrowingmarijuana.com"
1 Critical Cure- Pacific Seed Bank
1 GMO (Garlic Cookies) from a hermie plant (growing just for fun, curious if it will make seeds or not).
2 Orange Sherbert Autoflower (Planting at later date)

Pots- growing in
30 gal smart pots
1 In-ground w/ gopher cage approx 50 gal.
2 5 gallon smart pots for autoflowers.

Unfortunately this year it has been historically cold. So I haven't been able to get my plants outdoors in their big pots yet. So they're still under LEDs in 1 gallon pots. So each morning I have to bring them outside, and bring them back in around 7-8. I know the plants can handle the cold nights, but they will definitely grow much faster in a warmer environment during nights; even if still only in their 1 gallon pots (actually 3/4 gal). I also don't want to risk frost burn, or another crazy windstorm like we've been getting. The LED lights are Feit Electric 36 watt from Home Depot. Super cheap, only $68, but they work since I take my plants outside each day.

Looking forward to hear your comments and suggestions! And ask any questions you want!

-Here's some pics of my grow so far.

Forgot to mention my soil mix

I always create by own supersoil mix since I don't like to buy bottled nutes; powdered are so much cheaper.
This is what I'm using this season- Base of Big Roots or Recipe 420 Potting soil.
Kelp Meal. Feather Meal.
Earth worm castings. Bay Guano. Azomite. Gypsum. Homemade organic compost w/ chicken manure.

In the future I'd like to add some
Oyster shell, Dolomite lime, and Crab meal. All from "Down to Earth".

Topped all of the plants but the Critical Cure (CBD Strain). For some reason it started flowering, even though it's on the same light cycle as the other plants. Weird.

Normally I'd wait a bit longer to top (around 2-2.5 ft tall). But I need to keep my plants under 6-7 ft so my neighbors don't complain.
Here's some pics of the plants two days after being topped.

Hi! I have been using bottled nutes for a long time and just now am getting into slow release fertilizers. I'm looking forward to see your methods :)

Thanks. I used bottled nutes on my first indoor grow and quickly realized how overpriced everything is. Not to mention the time it takes to measure out and feed each plant. Less work and cheaper seems like a win win to me haha.
The only additional feeding I do is an aerated compost tea and a popcorn enzyme tea. And sometimes topdress with the dry nutes.

After noticing that my Critical Cure plant was flowering, I waited two days, hoping it would naturally revert back to flower all on its own... But that's not working.. FML!
So I decided to top it, and prune off the buds on the next node down. Hopefully this will help force it back to Veg state. Chime in if you have any tips!

April 24,

The Orange Sherbert Autoflowers have sprouted! Germinated these two in a glass, and then planted directly in 5 gallon smartpots. I would have liked to start these indoors but I didn't have the space. Nights have been getting warmer- hitting lows of 50F. So they should be fine as long as we don't get another freak cold spell!

Orange Sherbert Auto Strain- from Seedsman.
Has a very strong orange terpene profile.
Derived from- Orange Cream, Purple Urkle, and Cherry Pie.
I also bought some White Widow Auto seeds from seedsman that I'll be planting later this season in 5 gal smart pots.

Some pics of my animals.

My organic free-range chickens. Chicken manure is great for your compost. Currently have only 4.

Shadow- The Rodent and Lizard Killer.
Picked her up as a stray kitten at work. We think she's a Manx. They're geat little hunters. We've also got 3 other cats that come visit our property. We have so many gophers so they're all welcome.

The Neighborhood Hawk
I'm sure she kills lots of rodents; but she also took one of my full grown chickens in broad daylight.

Here in Northern California, nights are still in the low 40's plus fast winds. So I'm still keeping the plants inside during the nights. I started on an 18/6 light schedule, but I've been dialing back the light for the past few weeks, trying to get it close to the Outdoor light schedule. It's right on now, but the weather is too harsh. I know they would make it, but they will grow faster in warmer conditions. They are still in the corner of my living room haha. I just leave the window cracked for a little airflow.

My CBD plant, Critical Cure, continued to herm out. It developed little pollen balls that we pulled off. And now it's fully flowering. We still have it separated from the others though. Just in case.
We also just germinated another Critical Cure to replace this dud.

Autoflower Orange Sherbert Update:
One survived, one didn't. We had one really hot day and it dried up in the heat. Guess I should have watered it a little more the day before.
I'm germinating one White Widow Autoflower seed as a replacement.

Got the plants in tomato cages. Might use a second diy cylinder cage later on.

And the last two pics we're taken only one day apart. They're growing quick!
