Outdoor..How many days to preflowers?

Hi yall,

June 10 Germinated;
July 1 vegging height 2"
July 14th about 13"

..all doing well and total time so far is about 5 weeks in the germ/veg state. I keep looking for the sex and I know what to look for; but I don't see anything conclusive yet. I really need to thin the heard of 5 down to 1 or 2, since they are overtaking my back porch and making me a little nervous. Hard to do a 12/12 because the wife...she's tolerant of keeping them outside but won't let them indoors for me to force flowering. Covering them is also a challenge so I really just need nature to do it's thing and flower themselves.

How many more days do you think I have until I can determine sex? It's July 14th and it'a about a 15/9 light cyle right now outside. :yummy:

You have two things working against you, they are young and the days are long.

The day length is the biggest factor, I started some plants in early May, hoping I could sex them before the days got too long. By the end of June it was clear I would be nursing them for a while yet. They finally began showing in early August.

I think on your course for a similar showing. As the length of the days gets shorter and the plants get closer to physical maturity, you should be able to sex them in a few more weeks.

Defineatly Sativa....I can't afford for them to get to tall either so hopefully the 8" pots suppress a little of the vegging. Thinking about getting a large cardboard box to cover them for 12 hours to force it.

well if it's a sativa it's gonna take awhile, they will show sex way later then an indica would especially outdoors, the small pot should slow down the vegging but be careful for root lock.

that is def. not a pure sativa plant. a hybrid, maybe. Yeah, the box will do it, but you have to make sure no light at all can get through and you have to make sure your timing is precise....personally, I'd just leave them. I'm waiting on some AK48s to show...

Yeah I was thinking about the whole box thing...I could force them that way and I could time it reasonable well but I am worried after I force the flowering if they are put back to a longer light cycle (normal outdoor light) whould that afeect anything negitively. Also the box is probably more obvious than the plants!

There's a small chance of them herming if you use the box..and you're right, the box makes things a little obvious. You need to transplant them up by the looks of it...tell you what, keep them in there till they start to flower a little, then pot them up. You might want to top them now to slow them down a little, but that would also delay flowering. It would change the shape of them slightly, though...

wuts up icclearly i started mine about the same time outdoors and i had 1 show it was male about a week and a half ago and 1 show it was male a couple days ago and then the 2 i have left one looks more sativa and it hasnt shown anything yet and the other looks more indica and showed female about a week ago.
so mine took about a month outdoors to start showing and they were about a foot tall around 25-28 days old

hope that helps, peace

That encourages me...I know what to look for as far as the balls and all on the males but any other clues? I read the males tend not to have a lot of branching and less leaves than the fems. True? Right now they are indistinguishable.

45 Days...no preflowers. Looking at the U.S. Naval Observatory website http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneYear.html , I see 12/12 begins mid -late September for my area. I hope I dont have to wait 2 more months of vegging. Worries me there won't be ample time to flower before the first frost!!

Also notice lower fan leaves yellowing...I hopw that's OK. I also topper them since they were getting over 2 foot...another security concern.

Your plants will bud well before the actual 12/12 outside. Expect to see signs of flowering between the begining and middle of August, depending on strain.

If height is a concern perhaps you should look in to low stress training, then you can control the height of them them much better by keeping them tied down.

Also the yellowing leaves looks like they need some nitrogen, just fertilize them.

I would Strongly suggest you put them in "Slightly" larger pots....
When those get root bound, which they proably are now.....
Growth will "stop".... Unless you use a almost "hydro" feeding regimin<sp>....
You should be seeing pre flowers any day now....
Correct me if I'm wrong, I read that from seed a plant needs at least 2 months growth too show sex....(I've found this too be true in most cases)...
Peace guy, I know what your going through with growing on the porch..... With the Wife thing and all..

yeah man, good luck. buy your wife some flowers or something.

btw, i agree with leaddraft, those plants really look like they'd be happier in bigger pots. hit 'em with some fertilizer too...

It's funny you guys said that...before I read your postings. I spent some time this afternoon transplanting 2 of the healthier looking ones into 12" pots. I suspected 'rootbound' that was an issue, and sure 'nuff they did look very 'rooty'. Hopefully this will give them a little spurt before they sex. 'precciate the insights. :woohoo:
