outdoor grown Tribal Vision (finally!)

I scored a few packs of Afropips seeds way back when on a Seedbay weekend special - some Senegal Haze and some Tribal Vision. The S.H. is 100% Sativa, and is in the fridge waiting for another day (or a greenhouse), but I sprouted some of the Tribal Vision seeds and selected two beautiful plants, one female and one male. The initial test progeny from the crosses with the male have proven stellar thus far. The female turned out to be a real winner as well, so I've kept her around for nearly two years. Here's a shot from my first indoor grow with the Tribal Vision from seed:

Tribal Vision is a 4 way polyhybrid of (Malawi Gold x Blueberry) x ([Congo x Nepal IBL] x SWT#3). My keeper goes 12-13 weeks, and produces a finished product of the utmost quality. She produces very large yields of dense buds that cure out to a rich golden with pinkish highlights. The aroma is predominantly overripe mango with several floral notes and a sugary-sweet base. The effect is extremely clear-headed, expansive and 'wide', with no couchlock whatsoever. Extremely trippy in an "I just stepped into myself three times!" kind of way, complete with visual, tactile and audio elements, but also very functional and useful. Two bong hits of indoor TV will get you on your feet and doing something.

But I've never grown it outdoors... always wanted to see what the Big Halide would do to the high of the most psychedelic plant in my stable. I finally got my chance!

Outdoor Tribal Vision, beautifully grown by a good friend on his sunny Sierra Nevada foothill estate. His very first outdoor grow. An industrious fellow, he built a temporary enclosure when those sudden rains arrived and managed to take this plant until the first week of November. He busted out his loupe and scoped the trichomes, and harvested right on time - a few clear, mostly cloudy, with the occasional amber trich popping up here and there. He dried it extra slow and easy, and it is curing out beautifully as a result.

I was right about my assumptions regarding the sun doing something to the head of this plant. It reminds me of the way weed used to feel all the time. The outdoor grown TV is as trippy as they come, but never in an overpowering way. It seems to dovetail right in with the up energy that the high brings. As it cures, the floral aromas are beginning to intensify and the overripe mango is beginning to soften, and the overall scent is starting to resemble a potpourri. The flavor from the smoke is extremely soft and sweet, with a taste of fruit chewing gum on the exhale.

The differences between this same cutting grown indoors and outdoors are significant, but it's still identifiable as Tribal Vision to anyone who knows it. I would have to say that although my indoor TV's are overall more resinous, aromatic and potent, I prefer the effect of the outdoor grown. I'm glad I finally got to see the difference, but I'm a little bummed that I like his better.

I believe so, but I'm not sure. Ace has been working that for a while, they've taken it to F6 at this point. Admittedly I don't know much about Afropips aside from their strain descriptions and that apparently the Afropips dude went ballistic a few years back and got banned from the site in a big way. All of his posts got deleted, so there's no readily available background info on his parent strains on IC. But I dug his devotion to using African genes, and the description and genetic background of the Tribal Vision really intrigued me, so I bought it. Definitely not disappointed in any way.

The male did ridiculous things with my Super Jack cutting... the one Super Tribal Jack seed I even sprouted just to see if it would germinate turned into one of the most amazing plants of my entire growing career. 135 grams of rock hard bunches of giant foxtails in 10 weeks from seed in 2 gallons of coco. The high can only be described as 'profound'. I've seen it take some pretty hard-headed people to some really introspective and philosophical states of mind. No cuttings survived, but I have a ton more seed and I still have the male. STJ #1 RIP.
