Looking forward to the season. As for nutrients, fish emulsion ,seaweed extract, blood/bone meal go a long way, Time release fertilizer gets em huge if your into the chemicals.
If your worried about frost you may want to plant em in the ground. I feel pots being above ground are prone to frost damage.

just take into consideration of your area!!! i grow in bear and wolf country, does one know where blood/bone meal comes from? may be good for indoor use and some outdoor, but wont work for all areas... well we know outdoors that a fish emulsion of any sort will attract unwanted predators. If youre going to use fish ur best to just bury a few fish in the hole you plan to use next season and let it decompose, this will at least prevent animals from digging up ur plants ... Trust me no cage u make will stop a bear from digging your hole up.. just be aware of it

Very simple easy to find budget products everyone should be aware of.
11lb bricks of coir - 3 bricks = slightly more soil than a bail of promix. These are great for guerrilla/bush grows very easy to pack (1-2 per regular size back pack 4-5 in a large hiking pack) with rough dimensions of 11"x11"x4". 1 will expand to fill a 20 gallon tote 80% full. Cheapest price I've been able to find is $11 per block.
2 cubic foot bag of perlite - Not necessary depending on local soil.
50lb bag of pelletized chicken manure - Cheaper than guano, but just as effective. Mix with soil and top dress when needed.
Bio grow or similar organic kelp, grow, bloom liquid nutrients - Kelp for promoting healthy root development in freshly planted starts. Although, I use kelp all year. Grow and bloom are self explanatory lol
Mix the above ingredients 50/50 with local soil, you'll be quite happy come september/october.
