I may take a clone of one, veg that clone up, and then cross the clone with whatever good male I have available...I may do a widow grow after this...

Were your NL's bushy plants or did the main stem take over and be totally dominant?

To be honest Smoking Gun, I acquired these clones from another grower, and I've never personally seen these plants grow, but I am guessing from the condition of the clones I recieved and when they were taken in relation to the mother's life cycle, that this particular NL pheno grows bushy with natural multiple top sites. there are certainly plenty of top sites growing right now. clone 2 seems to have been taken from a plant that was revegged from flower...clone 1 seems to have come from a clone that was preflowering. it will be iteresting to compare the results of these two different style clones of the same genetics...oh and BTW I smoked a bunch of the herb from these ladies' mothers and they are soooo potent. Like honestly the most impressive northern lights stone you can imagine experiencing. I'm freekin stoked.

beginning of 12/12 update:

clone 1 - I have taken a top growth shoot off this one as a clone for the next grow...will potentially mother out and possibly even cross... :chin:

Clone 2 - I don't like this one as much...it's more spindley and has shown some sort of deciency already...I'm thinking Ca...yellow on the tips of older leaves...

anyone's thought on that yellow leafage? I haven't fed them anything yet.

I think that the older leaves on the one got burned some how, maybe the ph of my tap water is too high. IDK...anyway here's an update.

Way to go man! Great girls you're growing, btw I was always interested in growing NL but never got around doing it, so I really want to know something about the taste and how much does it take them to flower.
Cheers! :rasta:

hermanshootz, this is the old skool NL...the Aurora Borealis. The clone had been grown by an old hippie friend of mine for the last 14 years or something. I smoked some of the herb, and it tastes like true Northern lights...that lightly sweet spice that reminds you of a campfire with pine cones in it. Burns really clean if organically grown like I'm doin...bat guano all the way.

I was told 7-8 weeks flower from seed, 6 weeks clone. I guess we'll both find out.

peace always!

I wish we could find the original cut of NL, we've looked everywhere for it. I thought it dropped off the face of the earth! Glad to see it's still around.

trich-zilla- thanx for stopping by man, and yeah I don't even fully understand what I have here...all I know is i have made 4 clones ( 2 of each) and plan to make a cross with big bud ( i made clones of a big bud plant that turned out to be male{see polluted koolaid thread}) so yeah I met this dude through a buddy of mine and we made a transaction of clone for seeds, I was more than willing only because I tried the nug, thinking it was going to be a more recent "watered down" variety of NL like a later hybrid...but no way uh uh...that smoke would rival anything else I've ever tired. I felt that from the moment I sprouted that shiva queen seed, and as soon as I acquired these clones, and that as soon as my sweet tooth hydro was functional, that this would turn out t be one hell of a grow...now it looks like I'm set for life with cannabis genetics...word on the grapevine though is that a train wreck looks to be heading my way...and I currently have 2 OGK sprouted....that cross would be nuts. OGK x TRAINWRECK! probably will get some of them DSD from resevoir before they are gone...40 bucks is a damn steal.

I feel truely blessed to have this strain of NL...the sacrifice of a few homemade beans was well worth it. nothing beats the original.

Excellent! Personally, I would love to bring back the "old school" strains and make them mainstream again. Locally the great variety we used to have has been replaced by OG Kush and Headband. I miss the days of seeing pounds from people of random strains. If it's not purple, og, or headband it's considered trash by our recent buyers... they have no clue what they are missing with your genetics :muahaha:

I miss our trainwreck cut we used to have. Sure, she was a little hermie, but, it made the grow more exciting then... those were the days... The Original Northern lights, Old School Skunk and Blueberry, all of which, are impossible to find around here, growing in the same room

My room currently consists of Sour Diesel, Headband, AOTA, Candy and Afpak along with a Lemon Kush that's being tested and a Thaitanic. Fuck the bandwagon, I want off it.

yeah i guess I've always been a true believer of the phrase "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and a lot of these strains I have are older ones. Big bud has been around awhile as has blueberry and Northern lights. the sweet tooth grow I'm doing is something new for me, as I've never grown it before. I'll be sure to include a smoke report with that on it's thread in the hydro forum. not sure who the breeder was...I was gifted with these from someone who should be blessed for their generosity. what i really want to acquire is some original afghani. that was some of the best herb I ever had stateside. punch you in the forhead strong. haven't had any "Afghanistan's original" for a minute or two...I miss that hashy flavor.

Looks good. I'm just wondering, why didn't you fill those 5 gal. buckets to the top? More room for the roots to spread out.
About those "retro" strains. Yup, they are classics for a reason!
Nowadays, everyone wants something new. New strains command a price premium in Amsterdam. I was there in December, and this dude was going nuts for "silver bubble", cross between silver haze, and bubblegum. Nice herb, but worth a price premium?
Not to me. Why not just take some silver haze, and some bubblegum, mix 'em up in a joint, and smoke? Same thing, right?
My current grow: White Widow, from the 80s, and Warlock, from 96, I believe-won a cup that year. I grew some back then, and have been craving that taste for all this time. Oldies but goodies.

BQ2, to answer that...I did "relatively" fill the buckets initially, the clones came to me with their roots wrapped in wet paper towels, and I simply planted in the dirt and watered....that's how much the dirt settled from being watered on. I'm really not too concerned about it. I acquired them sort of "mid grow" and had to make arrangements to accomodate them, but at the same time who could refuse northern lights females??????
