Oriental Express harvest advice

Hello farmers,

I have three OE females in their 75th day of 12/12. The buds are huge and fragrant, the trichs look a little cloudy, and I am sure they are near harvest. But the fan leaves are as green as green can be, and the pistils are as white as a young plant.

I have done several grows, and haven't really come across anything like this before. Outwardly, the usual signs of ripening are not visible. Can anyone help with this strain?

take a sample nug , let it dry a weeek. puff and see if ya like it. i like clear cloudy trichs myself but some people like amber . find out whast ya like best.

unfortunately, I am on a thc-free diet for another three weeks, so I cannot sample it (and don't have any friends who smoke, either). Otherwise that is precisely what I would do.

I have typically taken the OE at around 75 days but I'm probably a sorta kinda premature ejectulator - if you know what I mean. Perhaps I've gone to 80 days but I wouldn't swear by it - it's been awhile since I've grown it out. Have you been flushing? What seems to be the overall state of the bud? Sometimes they just look "ripe." Then again, perhaps you have some longer-going phenos?

As a philosophical aside, knowing when to harvest has always been a bit of an existential conundrum for me. Ultimately, it's based -I guess- on where one's sweet spot lies. Or is it lays? At any rate, I tend to be more a cloudy trich guy myself - I do think that going a bit later with sats may give more ballast, gravitas and legs to the high if you are into ballast, gravitas and legs. I don't know, however, that I would go by leaf color. Or hair color.

How's that for a decisive answer!!?!?!?! Whatever you do, I think you are gonna be fine...it's a GREAT strain, at least in this man's army.

TAKE IT 90..she has thai in her and you will thank yourself...it will knock you off your feet...i have run OE from ace and billygoat and even 80 was too early....i think even 100 would be ok..i like amber trichs...of course that is if you have room for her..dj

It really depends on your tastes and the phenotype you have. I had a very sativa leaning pheno that I let go for just about that long and it came out nice but a little dopey and energy sapping on the come down. About 20% of my triches were amber when I took her down but many of the pistols had started to crinkle up and go light orange. When I grow it again I will probably take it a little sooner because I absolutely hate indica type effects which seem to increase the longer you let a plant flower.

If you like more sedating effects then let it go until at least a third of the trichs are amber. If you prefer more electric sativa effects then take it when most of the trichs are cloudy or clear with few ambers. The leaves remaining green might just be high nitrogen in its diet but the if all of your pistols are still white and healthy then it means the plant still has a ways to go before reaching peek ripeness. I prefer to take mine before they reach the peek since I like the effects better that way but everyone is different.

Greetings vajra,

Im glad to know you are finishing your Orient Express cycle. A pic would help a lot to evaluate the maturation of your plant and the average flowering time of the Orient Express pheno you are growing. 9-10 weeks of flowering time is usually enough for most Orient Express indica and intermediate phenos but the more vietnamese sativa influence phenos could take a bit longer. If she is still producing abundant fresh pistils and the overall health of the plant is good then maybe she still has things to say .....

hi everyone. thank you for the advice. After further inspection, I felt that they were riper than I had thought. I harvested all my plants the other day with a majority of cloudy trichs, some clear, and a small touch of amber. I think they all went 77 days.

I will let everyone know what the outcome is. I also harvested three Bangi Haze girls, and let another go until yesterday--87 days from flowering onset.

this will be my summer/fall/winter stash. I am really looking forward to it!

38 days here w Orient Express. Red hairs, nice and frosty. 1000w hps with Jacks nutes and started shooting powder at 1/2 strength a week ago.

Your sativa OE pheno looks very well developed for just 38 days of flowering time, should be great in 2-3 weeks more.
