Organized Civil Disobedience

To any who know or wish to speculate, opine and debate:

What are the laws around public cannabis smoking en masse? Sure, there is a local factor, and brave souls willing to come out of the hemp closet would need to participate. There would logically be some possession arrests...

But what about the idea of organizing these things, in the hopes that they would become so big, popular and overwhelming to LE that not everybody could possibly be charged and processed? People would do it to get the message across that the American public will not tolerate these obscene, immoral, unjust and unconstitutional laws any longer.

I read a suggestion that people at public smokeouts bring a helium-filled balloon on a string, tie it to the joint they smoke and let it go if LEO comes near. That sounded like a great idea to me.

(Prepare for the outlawing of helium balloons in FL and TX)

I see a vision of masses of Purple balloons, tied to joints on strings, signifying these specific protests. Purple for the color of the clothes that the Emperor should wear!

What could an organizer of such activities be charged with? What are thoughts on this general idea?

I hope this is not considered against ToU as a topic! I guess we'll see....

:thank you:

its still illegal but if there's more people present your probably less likely to be arrested. The whole safety in numbers thing applies here.

these things usually happen around 4/20.

check college campuses around Colorado, Cali, and so on...

i also refuse to wear purple while smoking a fucking joint...

Those are just two that I know about, so it definitely happens. Now whether it could happen in places like Mobile, AL or Jacksonville, FL is another story...

Right, yes - I know about the 4/20 smoke-outs... they need to happen on a massive scale, often.

Balloons would get attention, and that would be the point. They are also not nefarious or perceived as harmful. Also wouldn't it be cool if you could stumble across a dead purple balloon tied to a big fat roach? But I digress.

OK, so what would get peoples' attention and make the point better?

When i was a young teen, i was friends with a guy named Norman Lubow who started going by the name of "Reverend Bud". He is who got me into the "dank, kind, killer buds", before him i only knew of the mexican chocolate thai stuff...Anyways, he used to do rallies at the Federal building on Wilshire in Westwood, California. At the rallies he would spark up, pass out joints, invite others to spark up, and rarely was ever bothered. There was one time he tried to spark up on a talk show and the host smacked his face with the joint in his mouth - LOL!

Norm would rally all over the country at Federal buildings and pro-cannabis rallies smoking and tossing joints into the crowd. He got away with it... But of course if the police want, they can arrest you.

I was curious when this took place, so I googled his name (Norman Lubow) in case he was famous. I didn't get any good info, but interestingly your post from this thread came up as the 3rd Google result. Hmmmm.

So, maybe my purple balloons thing didn't really load this idea with as much credibility and serious intent as I felt when I posted. I guess I'll proceed with my own research, but I do hope others will share their thoughts.

Giving money to organizations that work through the system (NORML, MPP, PUFFM, etc.) is very nice. I'm beginning to feel, however, that they are moving just as quickly as BP is capping the well. There are always lobbyists with more money and corporations to fund smear campaigns.

If everybody who smokes came out and did it publicly, often, on a pre-planned basis, after a while the world would get used to it.

That would be cool if Norm googled himself and saw this and came to hang out, but he was a serious Luddite when i knew him and that was 89/90, i was 16.

He believed that that there was a spiritual connection between God and Marijuana, and that "Jesus was in the bud", he is also a vegan, which is cool. The disturbing thing was his fixation on Ronald Reagan back then. He made some song with his band with the lyrics: "Ronald Wilson Reagan, 6,6,6, the number of the man, the number of the beast" - heavy metal. Twas funny when i was stoned off my ass, and visiting Rev. Bud always meant getting stoned off my ass.
