Organic Outdoors '06

Thanks for stoppin' by. This is my first true outdoor grow.

From seed, there are 19 Durban Poison (Dutch Passion), 1 Blueberry (Dutch Passion), and 5 Green Goddess. From clone, 4 Chronic (Serious) and 1 Super Silver Haze. There are also a few runts that I don't have the heart to kill.

All of the prospective ladies are in organic soil (also a first for me). I followed Subcool's mix and have had awesome results. The plants are as vigorous as in my hydro setups. I can't find a link where I found the mix so I'll repeat it here:

- 2 Bags Fox Farm Ocean Forest Potting Soil
- 2 Large Bales Sunshine Mix #4
- 75 lbs Worm Castings
- 5 lbs Steamed Bone Meal
- 5 lbs Bat Guano
- 2.5 lbs Blood Meal
- 1/2 cup Epsom Salts
- 1/2 cup Sweet Lime (Dolimite)

I'll post some pics tomorrow if it is not raining anymore. Here's what I'm smoking on right now:

am I reading that correctly that you are using 75 lbs of worm castings? good luck on the females, especially since there's only 1 blueberry (assuming they arent identified yet)

Worm Castings

Yes, 75 lbs is right on. It's not as much as it sounds like:

The blueberry is from a feminized pack. All of the seeds turned out to be little genetic mutants. This one just happened to grow out of it. The clones are from female plants. However, I don't expect them to yield much since they are some lousy little clones that I just put outside to see if they turned into anything. The rest of the plants, we shall see about.

Pictures, as promised.

Pictures, as promised.

It is great outside today (nearly 100 and storms the past few days) so I went out with the camera. The plants look great but will need some staking and pruning as I have been gone on a long vacation. Wind has caused many to grow on an angle.

Some general shots:

Green Goddess on left, Blueberry on right. You can still see the whorling in the BB fan leaves.

Here are the Blueberry mutants:

And a Chronic clone:

Btw, the bud pictured in the first post was from this Chronic's mother. Unfortunately, the only clones I have left of her are shitty and have taken on a growth pattern of alternating sides rather than growing a symmetric pair of branches at each node (see pic). I was hoping they might grow out of it but no luck yet. I'd really like to save the genetics

Interesting growth pattern, hope they grow out of it. Your plants are the picture of health! I wish I could buy worm castings but there aren't any available commercially in this country. I do get a mix that includes worm castings though. I'll be picking some up soon :)

Nice looking plants Mr. Fantastik... are they in organics? What's the mix. Anyways, you could probably start your own thread about them... :chin:

Guano ?

Guano ?

Nah, don't bother deleting. I don't mind your company, Mr. Fantastik. Post a link if you start a thread.

I was always wondering, is there a difference between the different guanos? I see Mr.F has Mexican. I believe mine was Jamaican but I'll have to check if I saved the package or have a pic...

Ah, there it is:

guanos from different regions have different N-P-K ratios
Hm, that certainly is interesting. Next time I mix up some soil, I'll have to pay attention to what I'm putting in. Subcool didn't specify so I didn't think twice about it.

Yeah, the pots aren't very large (12" - 30cm). I started late in the season and when I stuck them in those pots the plants were pretty tiny yet. I had planned on planting in raised beds but that didn't happen... and when I went to walmart they only had enough of that size pot... so be it.

I'll maybe do another transplant to larger pots (most likely the good ol' home depot buckets I'm not using for dwc anymore) or into the ground once they have all been sexed. Otherwise I'll just leave em' be and see how they turn out.

Here are the plants on the blessed day of transplantation. They aren't the best looking plants and that's exactly what made me give the great outdoors a go. They proved me wrong and turned into some fine beasts.

The plants are an average of 4 ft tall now. I'm considering topping them to encourage side growth but I'm not sure if it is too close to flowering time for that.

gl.pirate what the guano has in it depends on what the bats ate for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. also the enviroment that the bats live in has a lot of influence but not as much as what they eat.

for flowering isnt their supposed to be little to no nitrogen, and i heard that guano (bat) really fills out the buds nicely...but from what i understand some guanos are pretty high in N. for them to be bloom boosters, what should i get for a nice organic booster?

Your plants need nitrogen 2/3 of the way through flowering. A lot of people make the mistake of stopping Nitrogen when they start flowering. Even though they are flowering, they still have a lot of growing left.
