Orbot. You need this.

Did a search and didn't see anyone here talking about orbot. Orbot is a mobile tor client for android. Coupled with Mobile firefox and the firefox proxy plugin, it provides complete (ish) anonymity while browsing from your mobile device. Any app that has a proxy setting can take advantage of it as well. Essentially turning your phone into a tor proxy server. It is so easy to use and surprisingly fast. Just wanted to put it out there for anyone who may find it useful. Highly recommend. :tiphat:

Sounds interesting, however I've encountered lots of problems using firefox on my tablets. I use Opera Mini and it works great. Will this work with that?

itll work with all programs, it sets up real easy, also for those rooted, download "Xposed Framework Installer" and "xprivacy" you can trick apps into thinking different permissions, i.e. locale, phone no., or just shut off the permissions in general, anyone that cannot figure it out, please feel free to contact me via PM, and if there are a bunch of repsonses ill just set up a Tutorial thread....

skip I checked out the proxy instructions for opera mini and really there are none. it has you setting up the proxy through the providers apn. I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you are very comfirtable with your phones apn settings.

Orbot will take control of your entire phone....you do not NEED firefox, it is compatible with browsers and apps

Yes if your phone is rooted it will be available for the entire phone. My phone is not rooted and I would imagine the bulk of the public's phones are not as well. Either way still extremely useful.

Wow, that would be REALLY useful for privacy! There's always some app that does more than I'd like it to do. Some apps access your personal info, without any good reason.

I have to wonder how many apps out there are either fishing for your info or are just another way for the NSA, FBI, CIA, DEA, etc. to spy on us.

Really research any app that "takes control" of your device. Unless that is the stated intent, and you feel safe with the company that created the app, don't do it!

Headi, what would be great is if you could start a thread in the Security section about Security Apps for mobiles, and discuss this one. Thanks! :)

I am going to have to ta make a thread....I owe it to the community and it seems people dont know how to "root" their devices, which is VERY easily done by searching "root my (insert phone model here)" - but i will happily link things up and post a thread on it....

the privacy app is nice because you can tell Google Maps or ANy program you live somwhere else, or you can just completely deny access to your location, obiously defeats purpose of google maps, but you can at least knock the permissions off from your phone number/network/mac address so on and so forth....
