Orange Diesel & Thai Haze x Skunk #1 in 30 gal DWC

D

Don Cotyle

G.J.Warner thanks for the idea, but I'll wait 2 more weeks and the Thai Haze will go to the bottom of the tub and get spread out and tied along the side and back walls. I'll get some more head room and I'll dehood the lamp and hang it about 11/2' from the top.

Gunslinger, you won't belive it if I told you they were toped at 8" just before 12/12 :p
they'll be fine as soon as I harvest the Orange Diesel

I'm sure glad you're making all my mistakes for me. If you and Wayne hadn't ridden my back, I probably would've waited till 8 inches to flip.

I was peeved at the time but, I'm now happy that one of my pair showed male. Trying to control two of these in my limited space would've been hell.

How many nodes on that 8"? Did you do any kind of trimming or pruning, esp. below the topped node?

Don Cotyle

Hi Clowntown, They had 3 nodes on one and 5 on the other. They were topped again at 2' side branches were topped at 3' and again at 4+'. Once they hit the cealing they did their own LST and now all branches are almost to the cealing. They will be moved to the 2 back corners and sunk into the rez tank ioward the front, that sould give em at least 2' more height, they wll then be tied to the side and back walls. I'll them loose my hod and drop my 400w'er right in the center...I'm running 2 fans in the front door to keep the heat off of em. No I'm Not Crazy :) I've actually done this a few times before, plants don't care and will actually start to root at the submurged node points.

I'll cut a large u into the top of the tun to get this done, the u will alowme to spread them out as far as I can. I'll ten use some duct tape to fill in between the stems to keep light out of the tub. Designed by necessity:p

Freezerboy, them suckers sure do streach, don't they! Sorry to hear about the male :badday: Better drill out them holes we were talking about ;)

I just put in a scrog screen approx 20x28 inches. Am I nuts to think I can contain one girl in that space?

D

Don Cotyle

I wouldn't say nuts...mabey Coo Coo for Cocopuffs :) She'll be contained for a while but what about when she breaks out...hopefully you'll be ok cause you started 12/12 from git go. Hope Wilma is an S&M kinda girl!!!

How is the level of nitrogen?

I think part of your overgrowth problem is due to too high nute levels from sharing the same reservoir as the Orange Diesels.

In my very small amount of experience growing sativas I've learned that they tend to like very low levels of nutes, particularly nitrogen, or they can stretch out of control (and become a bundle of airy popcorn).

Hi Clowntown, I'm useing the Lucas formula, right now my total N-P-K is 5-55-35 per gallon in the 30 gal res tank. the P-K is high for the last bloom phase of the OD which will diminish as used up. I'm only feeding a 5-5-5 overall. My ph is 5.9 and TDS is 1900 and will drop back to 1550 when additional P K boost is used up. I don't spike N dureing the streach. I let them veg and should of went right into 12/12 but couldn't with the OD in there, so now all side branches are into the top of the canopy. Valentines day I'll have all the room I need for em!!

Thanks for the heads up, when I flush the OD I'll drop my levels to 2.5-2.5-2.5 andsee how they do, but when it's final couple weeks I'm still gonna spike the P-K to fatten em up!

Stay green and safe, The Don;)

Holy CRAP those are getting tall as hell! Can you make sure to take some pictures of the cabinet after you take out the other plants? I'm interested as to how you're going to arrange things :)

Hey Don,

I'm re-reading your thread, trying to get an indication of what to expect. I see your stretch and panic sets in but, then I note we have several differences in our cabs and such. You have a stronger light and probably higher night temps (50s-60s for me) You're also using additives and foliar stuff. I figure all that has to have some effect on growth/stretch.

Is my math correct when I say you vegged for 25 days before flipping the lights? I did 12 cause you, Wayne and others beat me up about it (thank you by the way)

Early on you measured CO2. Are you adding it or was that just testing what was naturally there?

Thanks for leading the way.

Give it very low nutes, especially nitrogen. And don't be afraid to bend and snap stems if necessary.

My understanding so far is that light intensity isn't as important for these near-pure sativas. (In fact, I've read lower amount of light may be beneficial during certain stages of flowering to help buds fill in.)

So far I'm doing a straight Lucas Formula. No other additives except pH down as needed. My EC has been steady at 2.1 (rather than the 2.6 some seem to call for at this stage) Right now my concern is more about stretch than quality. My screens filling fast and I've yet to see what one would call buds or clusters that I would let grow above the screen.

I quess I'm hoping that some of the height I'm seeing in Don's garden is due to timing and stuff he's done or added that I might avoid.

T*Haze is correct. I'm new to DWC and to the whole TDS/PPM/EC thing so at this point I'm just sticking to the Lucas Formula to see where that leads me. An EC of 2.1 is what the LF gave me in my EC 0.5 water.

Since finding there are (at least) three different conversion methods for ppm, I've decided to stick with EC. I've seen folks calling for ppms of 1000 all the way to 1800. These numbers suggest the x500 conversion which give an EC of 2.0 to 3.6. Needless to say, it's confusing.

Right now my plants seem happy (maybe too happy) If you have a better number, hit me. Please. What are you shooting for in your grow?

I've never grown this T*Haze, but from seeing others' grow pictures I can see it's very sativa, and stretches a lot. You can see how feeding regular strength nutes can make these plants stretch out of control. In my experience, seedling to early vegetative stage strengths of nutes would be ideal. When starting with a new strain like this, I like to shoot for low, and work towards fixing deficiencies (if any)... instead of shooting high, and adjusting for overages.

My recommendation would be... don't feed at the 8-16 Lucas formula; that is a general guideline and not a defacto feeding standard for all strains. There are many exceptions, with these low-nute-requiring, stretchy sativas being a very good example of when to adjust.

:2cents:

Errr... sorry DC for hijacking your thread. I'll take it to PM from here.

Don's been watching out for me. LilWayne, too. I don't think he'll mind a pure information exchange. It's not like we're talking slot cars or politics.

Thanks. And PM anytime.

Hi all, Been busy and hadn't had a chance to update lately.

All god news!!!!!!!!WEEEdogies!!!!! The Orange Deisel was harvested today and hung to start the cure. That's a double row there!

That left me with a big void in the closet so I decided it was time to unlease the Beast THxS1. I cut the back of the rez top al the way across so I could move the 2 plants t the back ad drop them to the bottom of the tank! Then I recovered the top!

Got plenty of headroom left now to finish. I also took the hood off and hung my 400w verticaly.

The 2 THxS1 plants filled the closet back up...ain't they purrdy :headbange :jump: :jump: , se I told ya not to worry about it :joint:

Let the show BEGIN!

So have you seen anything that could be considered a bud yet? I'm about 30 days behind you and while I'm seeing more and more flowers, nothing that could be called a bud. Just wondering when it starts.
