Orange Diesel by Verite

You've probably seen that big fat flowering male on icmag's home page. That's the grand daddy of Orange Diesel. Verite took his incredible NYCD male (AnnaC stock) and crossed it with a skunk/ California Orange hybrid for his F1's and then chose the "orangiest" smelling of the bunch to make the seeds that I grew.

This was my first indoor garden and also the first females I've had that were of known genetics. I grew them up on a soil/perlite mix and fed them Nature's Nectar Organic Nutrients and threw in a bit of Epsom Salt. These were heavy feeders and needed constant nutrition. The last two weeks before harvest they were flushed and given only H2O.

Of the five seeds (out of 15.. Verite is generous), I got three females and had one male and one plant was culled due to space. 100% germination.
I had three phenos.. one being a light, fluffy bud structure that leaned towards Skunk (Skunk pheno) and two that had tight, chunky buds. One leaned towards the cali orange (Cali-O pheno) and one seemed to be a perfect hybrid of Cali-O and Diesel... the true "Orange Diesel" phenotype. This was also the plant that had the highest yield.

Each plant had a yield around 2.5 ounces. Not a bad yield. I vegged them for a couple of months... until they started shoving pre-flowers.I have been curing the nugs for over five months now in sealable glass jars.

I have spent some time with this herb. I have bonged it, rolled it into joints, rolled it into blunts, smoked bowls of it but primarily I vape it. Honestly.. I can't tell much of a difference in flavor between the phenos when it is just smoked. It has a general spicey flavor when combusted. The flavor report is based upon my experience vaporizing it.

Skunk Pheno:

Smell: Sweet skunkiness with a citrus tinge. Also there is a bit of spice to this bud.

Appearance: Big, airy buds.

Smoke taste: Spicey Citrus.

Effect: This bud has the kind of high that is more energetic than the other two but still has indica leanings. Nice up, awake feelings with a bit of indica body buzz. This weed also has a bit of paranoia associated with it and is not a night time smoke. Nice weed if you want to go on a bike ride and trip out.

California Orange Pheno:

Smell:Much more "orangey" than the Skunk pheno. This is a sweeter version of the "Orange Diesel" Pheno.

Appearance:Tight and chunky, though not as big as the OD pheno.

Smoke Taste: Sweet, slighty citrus. Hard to discern much flavor in this one.

Effect: The buzz can be kinda intense like the skunk pheno but with a little more body effect.

Orange Diesel Pheno:

This one is true to the name of the strain.

Smell:Orangey, hashy dank flavor. Little bit of a cleaner smell to it.. but not much.

Appearance: Big huge chunky buds! These are the fattest and heaviest yielding colas of the bunch. Nice little foxtails in this bud... the main reason I was so attracted to Orange Diesel in the first place.

Smoke taste: Orangey flavor.... this is the closest to the "orange gojo" hand cleaner smell of the three. This is the flavor I was looking for in the Orange Diesel.

Effect: A 50/50 sativa/indica buzz. Not quite as intense as the other two.. but it still packs a punch. It is the best "party" weed of the three... nice to roll a spliff of this and pass it amongst friends.Though it starts heady, this buzz ends up being the mellowest of the three.

Conclusion: This is some kind bud! Perhaps it is just all of the TLC I gave it but this is the best weed I have ever smoked. The flavors are really there, especially in the smell. I still want to find a nice "holy grail" strain.... but for now this will do nicely. I have had other people sample it as well and some of them are completely blown away. I have a friend who gave it to another one of his friends that grows indoor and on the first few hits she said "ahh yah.. this is just like our homegrown.. nothin special". Five minutes later she was saying "whoooaaa... this shit is strong!"

I would recommend picking up some Orange Diesel if it is ever in stock again. It is easy to grow (keep the nutes comin!) and I had no problems with hermies. Any kind of problems I had (yellowing of leaves due to lack of N, "praying" for Mg) would be corrected quickly upon giving the plant what it wanted. The yield is nice and the bud is kind. It was especially a great deal at $60 for 15 seeds!

Love the Orange Diesel Verite!

Overall, 9.5/10
