Oraganic Fertilizer for dummies?

Weed_Seed

Member
Can anyone hook me up with some names and links for some easy to use oraganic fertilizer?

Also another question... My soil is composed of perlite, compost, peat moss and humus. How far should that get the plant without needing ferts. The plants are 10 days old and have just been fed with plain water.

Thats looks good. Kind of confusing though, no clue whats going on with the chart. Looking for more of a fert mix.

One of the hydroponic stores in my area carry pure blend pro veg/bloom, is that any good? Is it easy to use?

They are also selling this folliar spray for flowering called 'RAGE'. I've never heard of it. It says its made up of ocean based extracts.

There are many options.

Easy depends on what you know and where you are at gardening wise.

The simple products and I say simple as in natural simple are the Guanos. Both Sea bird and Bat.

I don't know if you know what N-P-K is about if not it's something to learn.

I use sea Bird high in N and a box high in P plus liquid kelp mostly.

Also good to use is Fish emulsion. Soon I will be trying a box of crawfords micronized compost.

These things are the raw ferts and need to be used in relationship to each other.

As for a all in one or two bottle system .. There are a few threads already. It has been a big debate at times.

With an organic soil we can put things in the soil before planting.

My favorite store online and in person is groworganic.com

The chart is used to show you what the soil additives on the right will do when added to your soil. Some of the additives are given NPK values which will help you determine the overall strength of your total soil mix. IMO, it is better to feed your plant through the soil rather than thorugh watering. Here is a fert mix that I have used in the past.

1 gallon Miracle Grow Organic Soil
3 gallon Pro-Mix with Perlite
1 gallon Mr. Naturals Worm Castings
2 gallon Compost
1 galon Sand
.5 cup Blood Meal
1 cup Bone Meal
.5 cup Espom Salt
1 cup Bat Guano
XX Garden Lime (adjust PH)

It's a fairly simple recipe with most of the products readliy available at your local Home Depot, Lowes, Ace, or its overseas equivalent. There are many mixes available. Also, if you add any manure to any of your mixes be sure to let the soil sit for a few weeks, turning the soil once a day or every other day, so that the soil cools and doesn't burn your roots.

Teas are fairly easy to make. You can add compost, blood meal, bone meal, guano, worm castings... well practically most soil ammendments can be used in tea mixes. You will want your tea to sit about 3-5 days, stirring at least once a day. Usually, I do compost and worm castings in my tea mixes. I only add soil ammendments when I need a particular nutrient for my plants.

Also, many products at hydro shops are chemical. Ask the owner or look on the bottle to see if it is a chem product. I hope I interpreted your question right and answered what your were asking.

Happy Toking :rasta:

Wow, you really know your shit :D. I was thinking of making an organic mix soil. I got too egar and planted them into the organic soil I bought. It contains peat moss, compost, humus and perlite. Now that the soil is already good to go I rather go for a liquid easy to use fert I can just put in the water. I mean the soil has some pretty decent oganics in there already. Would the pure blend pro veg/bloom + folliar feed (the guy at the store recommended something to me but I completely forgot the name)give me good results or do I need other additives?

If thats not good enough I'll make a soil mix with all organics you listed,
thanks kush07!

JackTheGrower:
Like I said, if the ferts I'm already planning on buying arent enough I'll grab some of things you listed.

Basically every thing that jack & kush has suggested.

Have fun.

I don't suggest wasting space with sand.

It doesn't feed and isn't that good for air in the soil.

Perlite can make it lite and add air pockets. Rinse first.

Thanks B.C. The guy at the store told me he had a huge selection of folliar feeds. When I drop by hes going to point out the best one so I'm not too worried about that.
Why wouldn't you worry about it?

Here ya go...

Here are two very good organic soiless mixes...

LC’s Soiless Mix #1:
5 parts Canadian Spaghnam Peat or Coir or Pro-Moss
3 parts perlite
2 parts wormcastings or mushroom compost or home made compost
Powdered dolomite lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of the soiless mix.
...Check the link in my sig line below for cheap earthworm castings. Free shipping to the eastern USA.

Or, if you use Pro Mix or Sunshine Mix...
LC's Soiless Mix #2:
6 parts Pro Mix BX or HP / Sunshine Mix (any flavor from #1 up)
2 parts perlite
2 parts earthworm castings
Powdered dolomite lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of the soiless mix.
If you use a 3 qt. saucepan as “parts” in the amounts given above, it equals about 1 cu. ft. of soiless mix and you can just dump in a cup of powdered dolomite lime.

RECIPE #1
If you want to use organic nutes like blood, bone and kelp...
Dry Ferts:
1 tablespoon blood meal per gallon or 1/2 cup per cubic foot of soil mix
2 tablespoons bone meal per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of soil mix
1-tablespoon kelp meal per gallon or 1/2 cup per cubic foot of soil mix or Maxicrop 1-0-4 powdered kelp extract as directed
1 tablespoon per gallon or 1/2 cup per cubic foot of Jersey Greensand to supplement the K (potasium) in the Kelp Meal and seaweed extract.
Mix all the dry ferts into the soiless mix well and wet it, but don't soak it with Liquid Karma and water @ 1 tbs./gal. Stir and mix it a few times a week for a week or two so the bacteria can get oxygen and break down the bone meal and make it available. And don't let the mix dry out, keep it moist and add water as needed. It'll also have time to get the humic acids in the Liquid Karma going and the dolomite lime will be better able to adjust the pH of a peat based mixture too.

RECIPE #2
If you want to use guano in your soil mix...
Bongaloids guano mix
1/3C hi N guano per gallon
1/2C hi Phos guano per gallon
1TBS Jersey greensand per gallon
1TBS Kelp meal per gallon

RECIPE #3 (My favorite)
If you want to use guano tea and kelp...

Guano Tea and Kelp:

Seedlings less than 1 month old nute tea mix-
5 tbs. Black Strap Molasses
1-cup earthworm castings/5 gallons of water every 3rd watering

Veg mix-
1/3 cup Peruvian Seabird Guano (PSG)
1/3 cup High N Bat Guano (Mexican)
1/3 cup Earth Worm Castings (EWC)
5 tsp. Maxicrop 1-0-4 powdered kelp extract
5 tbs. Liquid Karma
5 tbs. Black Strap Molasses
@ 1-cup mix/5 gallons of water every 3rd watering.

Flowering nute tea mix:
2/3 cup Peruvian Seabird Guano
2/3 cup Earth Worm Castings
2/3 cup High P Guano (Indonesian or Jamaican)
5 tbs. Maxicrop 1-0-4 powdered kelp extract
5 tbs. Black Strap Molasses
@ 2 cups/5 gallons of water EVERY watering.
You can use queen size knee high nylon stockings for tea bags. 3 pair for a dollar at the dollar store. Tell 'em you use them for paint strainers. Put the recommended tea in the stocking, tie a loop knot in it and hang it in your tea bucket. The tea should look like a mud puddle. Agitate the bag in the water vigorously. An aquarium pump and air stone will dissolve oxygen into the solution and keep the good bacteria (microherd) alive and thriving. Let it bubble a day or two before you use it. If you find you are making too much tea and having to throw it out, use 2 1/2 gallons of water and cut the nute amount by half.

RECIPE #4
Three Little Birds Method
40 gallons used soil
4 cups alfalfa meal
4 cups bone meal
4 cups kelp meal
4 cups powdered dolomite lime
30 pound bag of earthworm castings . . .
That’s the basic recipe . . .
However we also like to use
4 cups of Greensand
4 cups of Rock Phosphate
4 cups of diatomaceous earth

RECIPE #5
Fish and Seaweed

For veg growth…
1 capful 5-1-1 Fish Emulsion
1 capful 0-0-1 Maxicrop liquid
1 gallon H2O

For flowering…
1 tbs. Neptune’s Harvest 2-3-1 Fish/Seaweed
1 gallon H2O

RECIPE #6
And finally Pure Blend Pro...
Pure Blend Pro veg formula for hydro/soil and Pure Blend Pro flower formula for Soil. Simply use as directed on the label. It's a stand-alone fertilizer. That means, everything you need is already in there so don't let the guy at the hydro store try to sell you something more.

As Burn One has stated everything your plants need will come from the nutes your plants draw up at the roots,so you don't need to follair feed.I've grown for years without it.I think they tell ya that to get ya to buy more shit. For instance if ya do follair feed then ya have to buy a wetting agent too,for the follair feed to work right. It's jus more money ya don't need to spend.....Now a couple things to remember about mixing your own soil.First what ever you put in your soil needs to be broken completely down by the end of your flower cycle,if not you'll lock up nutes in your bud and it will taste like shit and won't want to burn.Second when you mix your own soil you need to mix it,wet it up,and let it set (in imo) 2-4 weeks stirring it once a week for air so the microherd has a chance to not only start breaking things down but to stabilize the ph.Imo by the time ya buy all the stuff you need ta mix yer own soil, you might as well buy a bag of Fox Farm ocean forrest and be done with it.Also by useing the F.F. o.f.you know when the flower cycle is over your bud isn't going to be locked up with unused nutes. If yer jus starting to grow I can't stress enough to keep things simple! Well that's my 2 cents.Good luck Weed Seed.Take care...BC anymore ?'s you jus hollar
