Opinions on old school strains and sellers..

Hey all. Longtime lurker. Just wanted to see what everybody's favorite old school strains were and why. I've gotten to try a few, salmon creek, basic 5 , m19, ssh, Afghan 1 and a few others. Id like to hear opinions and descriptions from others of strains from the past. Also of banks that might carry these genes still like seedsman, c.f., and nirvana. I'll be moving to a legal state soon and want to order so.e "heirlooms" so to speak. I have no experience with with these companies though. Thanks and Jah Bless!

I would try Dutch Passion for "heirlooms", they have been around for a long time and have some of the old strains, such as Amstel Gold (Passion #1), California Orange (but only in feminised form now), and other strains.

Their Skunk was the real deal when I grew it a long time ago, very resiny and smelly, and there was a sativa pheno which I could tell leant back to the Columbian.
The sativa pheno was the strongest smelling, maybe the second most strongest smelling strain I have come across, after a White Widow x Afghan I bred.l

If you want old skool, breaded retail has just released all the old cultivators choice lines. Poss flying Dutchmen too but they have been taken over by sensi seeds now, so the quality is anyone's guess.

Heirloom breeders are very few!
DJ Short, Tom Hill & Sam S. are about the only ones I'm aware of.

I'm sure there are a few others but their about as scarce as unicorns these days.
Nearly everything on the market, seed wise, is a hybrid of hybrids of hybrids.

True F1 crosses are just about as rare as heirlooms as well. See breeders scheme above.

Id def like to try as many.of sams/cultivators choice lines as possible. I just wonder if theyre stable anymore? Ive read alot about people using open pollination to keeps his lines alive, that just makes so many variables possible. As for dj, dutch passion, andd flying dutchmen, id love to believe their still good but so many bad reviews make me wonder. As for sensi, ive had good and bad results with them. Ordered hindu kush in 08 and not a single one germed. Only pack ever had problems with. But i ordered white labels white skubk(bred by sensi) the same year, and it was fantastic.

Anything from Sam will be excellent.

Seedsman has been awesome for me so far. No complaints whatsoever. Healthy uniform plants, and potent.

Check out The Real Seed Co. for landrace genetics, like the Hindu, Paki, Mazar, etc.

Here is a Seedsman White Widow fem grown from seed.

I'm a big fan of Northern Lights.
A good example rivals anything on the market today.
PeakSeedsBC may be a good place to investigate.

I used to have the nl#9 in my stable years ago. Loved that plant. Very similar to the basic 5 another friend held for years. Love the super piney taste. Ive read the nl from nirvana was the old 90s nl5 either crossed with their skunk male or an ibl. Either way im definitely interested in trying it. Peaks nl and blueberry have both caught my attention though. As for seedsman, everything they have looks great and they seem to hold more "heirlooms" than just about any other bank ive come across. Just kinda weorded out by how they disappeared for years and then came back with the whole catalogue in tact. Hard to believe they would have all the parents still after that absence.

I know I will get slated for saying it but what about kc brains? He's been breeding for 30yrs..

I recently opened a pack of Leda uno I bought at least 10years ago, all seeds germinated within 24hrs ( seeds have been kept in the fridge)

:tiphat:

Thought about kc.. ive tried mango, not sure if it was his though. Anyways, im fairly certain that the original green crack came from that mango. I know the old story about gc coming from a sk1l in the 90s.. yada yada. I dont buy it. My circle has held the cut for decades. The mango was the same rotten mango smell gc has, huge calyxs, and finishes in 7 weeks from flip just like the gc. I think its eother one in the same, or the mango is a parent, and i think kc would be the only one with the mango strain that long ago. Let the shit storm fly, but thats my two cents lol.

DJ Short strains....and I guess some older dutch and bc banks but who knows how maintained these gene pools are now days....best bet imo is to find clone's from old stock or local heirlooms in clone form

Best places to buy old school classics...retro weed you might call it....hmm let me think

Seedsman. ...im about to germinate bluebery fems ..sugar haze and African buzz from them.

From Breeders Retail (Chimera 's new seedbank) I'm about to germinate. Pot of gold . White rhino x sk1 . Origonal haze x o haze/sk . Mexican x o haze/ sk1...

So Chimeras "Breeders Retail" and Seedsman is my 2pence

Kc brains mango is the original cup winner... Big chunky buds that smell of mango, when you break a bud apart it smells like a freshly sliced mango, making my mouth water thinking about it now

Definitely KC for outdoor, full of old flavors still comparable to todays strains. Always wanted to try Leda Uno.

A lot of Brazilian in his genetics, stick with the sat doms imo.

Dutch Passion if the strains haven't changed, the original durban is a real breeder's plant with some very very unique qualities.

When I think of old school I always think of the hazes. That skunky, incense and spice smell that a lot of indicas were bred with showing even more skunk and fruit flavors while still have the spiciness.
I never thought much of haze and the "spice" / "Incense" smell/taste but once you've experienced it is a damn hard thing to forget. Being a younger guy It gives off pure nostalgia when smoked, and I wasn't even around for the original lol.

Not sure where to start on that but Neville's Haze and SSH would be a good start.
