Open Window Ventilation & Security

I am in the process of modifying my ventilation for my 10x14 grow room. After a lot of research, it appears a lot of folks use the windows within the grow room for obtaining fresh air and/or expelling stale air. A lot of people use window air conditioning units for cooling. Both of these methods require the window to be open to some degree, whether it be a 3 inch crack or wide open. In either case, I would like to hear some ideas on how you protect your grow room from the security issues (burglary mainly) that arise from having an open, unlocked window.

Well, we screw MDF to the window, so they'd have to break through that + we screw the window shut or use those little window locks they sell at HD.

Cut 2 pieces of wood the length of the window track (sliders) and screw one each to the upper and lower tracks. For sash/double hung windows do the same, only they would be left and right above the window pane. This avoids damaging expensive glazing with screws through the frames themselves.

Windows and doors keep honest people honest, they don't keep dishonest people out. A Remington 870 w/ 00 Buck maintains security at all other times, the bad guys just have to figure out what the "other times are". Chuckles and Grins on that one.

Thanks for everyone's responses. In addition to the above suggestions, I have one of my own. :) For those of you with security systems that monitor when windows open, move the window sensors so they are aligned with the window open. This way the security system will still arm and monitor the window in the case that someone tries to open the window further. However, I don't suggest using the security system if you aren't growing legally - that would suck to have the cops show up after a false alarm only to discover your grow.

don't see how it would be a fire risk if its only on the grow room windows, yes it would be suspicious but you can tell people thats your safe room where you keep valuables like guns or family heirlooms.

Mr Celsius, that was a bit of humor injected "chuckles and grins on that one". And you are right, herb isn't worth taking a life for. It wasn't BS, it was a Funny. All of my firearms are kept in a safe, unloaded.

Additionally, I grow, build, shoot regularly with current and former military buddies and fish when the weather is decent, in the future I will try to relate my humor with a fish story, or 2, maybe even three. If someone breaks in I will run to the freezer, providing I can get to the freezer, pull out a frozen steelhead and smack the intruder(s) on the head with it. LOL
