Ok, so this is my first time growing, so please bear with my noobishness. I was planning on starting a few plants inside and then moving them outside in a few weeks after they would have had a chance to grow up a bit.

I started germinating last thursday and planted them on saturday evening into some SOLO cups filled potting soil, and I wet them with very little water. I constructed a super ghetto grow box being lit with 4 CFLs and put the planted seeds (in cups) into said grow box.

I just left it to be through sunday, adding a tiny bit of water at some point. When I checked the box on monday, I realized that the soil was dry. Like really dry. I guess the heat from the lights was evaporating all the moisture. So I added more water to the cups and then put some little baggies over the cups so as to keep in that moisture. This was done on monday.

Now today, I still don't see any growth. Did I successfully manage to kill my poor plants before they even sprouted (doh!)? Or is there any chance that this will still work out?

Thanks much! :thank you:

Sounds like you did the paper towel thing and this is one of it's rewards. If you sprouted outside your media, transplanted and then allowed the media to dry, chances are you're dead. Sprout in what you grow in (no one grows in paper towels), keep it moist and deaths of this type can be avoided. Personally, I germ in my bubble cloner with rockwool so I never have to worry about water.

does your growbox have any vents, are you tracking temp and RH%? what are you sprouting in? If paper towels the listen to FB and get some rockwool/peat puck/rapid rooter something like that. If you are dead do yourself a favor and run your growbox for a week without anything in it and track your temps and RH% for days and nights. make sure you have a growbox and not an ez-bake oven

Keep it simple. As FreezerBoy says,, sow the seeds directly into soil/compost,, then when the hatch/sprout introduce them to the growroom/lamp. It is best to keep the soil moist while germinating the seeds and then allow it to dry out slightly between waterings as seedlings.

All the best

I would give your plants another day or two to recuperate from the water loss. The water has to work its way back up the root system.

Personally, I've always found it better to underwater your plants than to overwater them....LOL Plants tend to rebound from the lack of water, but when you have too much water, it's really hard to take it back out.

Good luck man!
