One vent hole for room + hood extraction?

If someone wanted to vent their hood, would this require putting in another ventilation hole or could the hood ducting feed into the same vent hole that the room's main extraction ducting feeds into, so that only one hole is needed for room + hood extraction? Thanks.

then the answer would be yes. how effective it would be is the question.

does it have a fan on the existing duct? If so then draw will be shared over the two inlets, the one near your hood and the original one.

Or are you thinking of just "extending" the existing duct over to your lamp.. so there is still only one inlet? so the whole room is being vented through your hood vent and into the existing exhaust. would seem the simplest solution to me. assuming the existing fans got enough pull. could always put an inline fan at your lamp hood to boost the airflow........any help?

any security threat to ducting straight outside? If so factor in a carbon filter which will add load to your fan and reduce airflow a bit.
