One for the Old Timers....

This question is for the long time smokers. I was wondering if you felt you have had any lasting health effects from smoking or use of the sacred herb in general for an extended time?
I am asking because I am a hardcore cannabis smoker smoking everyday from when I get up to when I go to bed for the last 7 years straight. I've mostly only smoked my own homegrown and of course the bubble and oil from it the entire time not having access to other strains unfortunately. I am searching for a better perspective from any of you old timers that have been toking most of their lives. With any luck I will be able to continue smoking for the rest of my life and I just wonder what I could be looking at with my "habit" from a health perspective. Any info or thoughts that you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Well I've been smoking weed daily since I was 13 or so and I'm 50 now,and I feel fine. For the last 15 years or so I smoke a joint every morning and a joint every evening. I have cut back the drinking to only weekend binges and gave up tobacco 5 or so years back. Also a brisk walk with the dog every day,2 miles,no matter the weather.

I started smokeing at age 14 and now I'm 51. I was an auto refinisher for 15 years and I get a chest x-ray every year. Lungs are clear, feel great!!! I don't see any long term effects or "bad" health risks from smokeing. I have been able to cut way back on pain medication, I'm sure that is a benifit from smokeing MJ. I'm rated with a 90% permanate disability to my right leg and hip from back in the early 80's so smokeing has kept me moveing and motivated over the long run! Gave up tobacco 10 years ago and only drink on ocassion. I smoke on a regular basis, am, noonish and pm every day!

We have morphed, and now have the ability to fold space and time, and have become immortal, but please do not tell anyone, the herb market prices will go through the roof!

been smoking for 31 years, almost every day, and Im very healthy, athletic, and don't seem to have any negative issues from it. I can hold my own with the young guys at the mma club where I workout and I'm pretty sure that I think just as clearly as before. There may be some issues with my attention, but I really don't want to pay close attention to everything, thats one reason I smoke.

I'm 60 and......

I'm 60 and......

Yes, after 40 years of toking joint, bongs and pipes, my lungs were a mess! I coughed up stuff and it was clear that my lungs were not happy! It took just two weeks of vaping to clear up my lungs- so much for "long term damage". No cough. No "gluppy" lungs. It was GREAT! I limit my toking and vape a lot more than I toke.

So the smoke does "do the dirty" to your lungs, but it clears up easily- even after 40 years of usage. I wouldn't (and don't) worry. Get a vaporizer when you start coughing. - Granny :joint:

42 years and no problems so far

42 years and no problems so far

I started smoking weed in 1966 and at times I have been smoking from the minute I wake up to the minute I fall asleep and at other times I start after work and keep at it till I go to sleep. The ONLY problem (and this IS health related) is that I give in to the munchies and I have gotten somewhat overweight. This got much worse when I quit smoking cigarettes because I was munching to keep from smoking and munching when I got the munchies. So I gained like 50 lbs.
Now that I am a patient in my home state, I buy mostly Sativas because they hardly give me the munchies and before bed I smoke Indicas (mostly"Purples") and they counteract the effect the sativas have of making my mind overly active (and unable to sleep). But fighting off the munchies right before bed IS a challenge.

So long story short - as long as you don't let yourself get fat you should have no problems unless you have respiratory issues already. Then smoking it might have some negative impact on your lungs unless you use a water pipe or a vaporizer.

Yes I have to agree with most of the answers here....my lungs are what's not happy with all the smoking. In fact, I find it as hard on the lungs themselves as cigerettes were.

Been smoking since 78 or so. Really havent noticed any ill effects that I could attribute directly to Natures Gift. However, times have changed, and over the last 15 years or so, my intake has shrunk like a cock in ice water

Long gone are the days of smoking a dimebag/day. I cant wake-and-bake anymore.. tends to fuck my day up. And besides, why waste a good buzz at work? A nice lil bong hit or two after work, and perhaps one at bed time does me just right.

So I'm at the point where an ounce will last me 6 months or so. And I prefer it this way.

I have been smoking since 1968, and my only problems are throat/lung issues from the smoke, because, after all, smoke of any kind is an irritant to those tissues. I am looking into a vaporizer. What I do is, every so often, I quit smoking for a period of time, maybe a month or so to clear up my lungs. One thing I have noticed over the years is that when I quit, I crash for about two weeks as I come down. Yup, crashing. During this period, I get extremely tired. No energy. Wondering if this happens to others. That said, I don't plan on quitting permanently any time soon.

I'll be getting my 40 year chip real soon! I was getting some leafy lids back in 1968 & I'm SO glad that it's better now. It's unfortunate that I also smoke cigarettes, if I'd quit I know that my health would improve greatly, mainly it's that I get winded easier now. At my check-ups, my doctor tells me that my lungs sound good & clear, & I really don't have lots of congestion.
I do have concerns about smoking in general, I don't want to HAVE to stop & I hope soon I can quit the cigs. Atleast I smoke American Spirits, without all the chemicals, but it's still tobacco.
I also have concerns about those Bic lighters, what all the fuel has been doing to my lungs. I wish I knew of another way to light up....candles perhaps? I just know that it's gotta be bad for us.
Another plus...I don't need to use so much!
