high all, any recommendations on lights for a refrigerator grow box? i want as much light as possible of course, but heat is the problem. CFLs or HPS? How many and wattage? Thanks for any info, links, etc. PEACE
My buddy uses a 250w MH, stanley blower fan for exhaust and FFOF in the crisper bins, and keeps the ballasts in the freezer section. His setup works well and spews out some nice nugs. This winter after outdoors is over, we're gonna put a 400 in there and see how it goes, or maybe just setup another fridge altogether.
If you're still lampless, I'd recommend at least reading up on LEDs. Just one year ago, I'd have said no way but look at what Sleepy, Hazy, Verdant Green, Blazeoneup are doing with them.
That said, I use a 250 CMH. With the freezer in the garage, I rarely grow in the summer as temps get into the 90s-100s F but, a 250 keeps me buried in weed so a summer shutdown is easily survived.
Freezerboy I saw your 2 diaries and they rocked. I wanna do a year round grow in a fridge and the room it will be in fluctuates from -10F to 100F. so do I go 250 HPS and concentrate on venting or glowpanel 45 LED and not worry so much about heat. I want DENSE quality flowers and the highest possible yield. 2 glowpanels? Could you give me ventilation suggestions like what type and size fans? thanks bro PEACE
Cap, our interests are so disparate I don't know if I can be of that much assistance. You say your interests are "DENSE quality flowers and the highest possible yield." Fine things to be interested in to be sure. Mine are 110% uber stealth and the right smoke regardless of appearance or yield.
I haven't made the jump to LEDs so I can't say if they're "worth" it. I just wanted you to be aware of them. Try the links above to LED grows. Compare them to the 250 Watt Club and The 400 Watt Club threads to see what folks do with "comparable" HIDs.
LEDs would certainly be nice in the summer, HIDs will help keep the cab warm in the winter, everything's a trade off.
