is your oil more potent than your butter? i have compared my total fat content of butter and oil. butter is 11grms fat tbsp and the oil is 14. and thc is absorbed by fat so in theory oil should be more potent. any one agree, or is this common knowledge already? thanks

I've made oil for brownies instead of butter for about 11 years now. I've tried to make butter a couple of times now and end up throwing the shit away cuz oil tastes and smells so much better in the final product. Not to mention I have never had to heat weed in oil longer than 1 hour and 30 min (until the weed looks brown) unlike most people saying 24 hours on the stove for butter lol.../shrug

My experience is that oil is easier, quicker, tastes better, and works. Butter seems to leave me wondering if it is even working.

Not to mention the ratios of what's needed to make each correctly.

I have used as little as 12g in 1/4c of oil with great effect for a batch of brownies.

Butter is generally 80-85% butterfat, the rest water & milk solids. The water & milk solids are usually lost when cannabutter is made. Infused butterfat is still close as dammit to 100% fat, & 14g per tbsp, just like oil. The oil was just 100% fat to begin with.

I use Ghee for my cannabutter & it is in the 13-14 gram of fat / tbsp...I have been under the impression that oil is a little less efficient but from all the positive votes on oil here, I might just give it a try.

Without a doubt, you have to give a 'good' try...first couple of times I was tweeking my method, thought my own personal results were subpar.

BUT...'testers' came back and said that the stuff brought them to the edge of tripping, it was just a little week for me.

Once you find your ratio, you'll go back to it over and over. :ying:

I use roughly 20g of topnotch, finely ground herbs to a 1/4c of oil and 'sauted' for 45 minutes, strain, make brownies.I use an 8" saute pan so I can have some depth of oil in the pan.

I'm thinking i'm going to go do some RIGHT NAO! :dance013:

I was recently able to do some experimenting, & I am now firmly in the hash oil -> butter/oil camp. Much faster, simpler, less messy, more predictable & soooooo much better tasting.

I don't object to the flavor of cannabutter/oil - I'm probably a little Pavlovian about it: Hmm, tastes like weed! I'm gonna get high! But especially if you're interested in making really good food infused with THC, hash oil first (or hash, I suppose) is the only way to go. I've made olive oil & clarified butter (ghee) with it; both are just out of this world.

Hash oil also makes the obvious experiment very easy - dissolve the same amounts of the same hash oil into different oils & see.
