Oh Man, WTF: Two Issues with my Grape Punch

Hey All, Lately I have been a little lazy with my grow.....:noway::1help: I have ran this same exact set up before and never had a problem. So I am a bit confused, but can only attribute it to being busy and not having as much time for my girls. The strain is grape punch, in veg for three weeks, in a 4 gallon container, under 600w MH, in a 50/40/10 mix of fox farm ocean forest/light warrior/fox farm planting mix. Temps are 74 with lights on, 72 lights off. No additives other than cal mag and molasses. I am using R/O water with a PH of 5.7 The soil goes between 6.5ph and 6.8ph. Anyways, the issue I am having is with one plant in particular, although now I am getting paranoid and am noticing it on a sour bubble too. On all the new growth of the plant, the leafs are twisting sideways (pics below). I gave them a dose (1/2 tsp per gallon of water) of some cal mag 5 days ago and it hasn't done anything. I was wondering if any one has any insight. I have seen leafs curling down and up, but never twisting sideways like this. The second problem I am having is, I went out of town yesterday, checked the girls before I left at noon, the light was working fine. I got in at 7am this morning, checked the girls, and the light had burned out. So I don't know if the light has been off for 19 hours, or less. The bulb was cool to the touch and the ballast was lukewarm because it was still plugged in. What potential problems may this cause? (NOTE: The twisting started to happen before the bulb burned out) They are now under my 600w hps, because I didn't have another MH bulb. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

You may well need some CalMag but I'm a bit lost. Your water is RO and at 5.7. I'm assuming you adjust it into the sixes before you water with it, correct?

And first GUESS....you may well need some CalMag if you are using RO water.

Yes, I adjust it to a PH of 6 after I add nutrients (cal mag "plus" (Micronutrients) and molasses) to the R/O water:)

Thanks for correcting my error. My hydro man (who I adore and taught me tons) seems to think that ideal ph for soil is more along 6.3-6.5. That's what I ph my stuff to before I water in soil and it seems to work well for me. That would be my first suggestion.......my second would have been CalMag but you beat me to the punch there. :D

Good luck.

Those long skinny tips remind me of something......the ones on the end of your leaves. Let me check out Stiitch's stuff......the plant itself looks very nice except for the funky tips and the turning of the leaves.

If you are in veg, don't worry about the lighting. It should not cause a problem.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, man. They look great.

Since it's not far along i would suggest doing absolutely nothing. Lots of times when i see a problem start to form i jump to conclusions about what it is and react right away. Sometimes I'm right and i fix the problem, other times i'm wrong and i make it worse.

My first guess was also a mag def since it looks like your pH is in check, but it is so hard to tell, especally cuz you're already using cal/mag (though she might just be a mag whore). I'd wait a few more days and if you notice and more curling/interveinal chlorosis, hit that bitch up with even more cal/mag or epsoms.

If other problems start to arise;that's fine. It will simply give you more clues to what your plant needs and give you a better understanding of how to fix it. I'm really working on being less reactive (i think most growers need to do this).

Thank you for your help I really appreciate it. I noticed another grape punch in the garden is affected too as well as one of the sour bubble's. Skinny new growth with twisting..... I am starting to think this is either a ph problem or maybe even a sulfur issue. Next time I give 'em a feeding I will move the ph of my water up to 6.3 and see what happens. I wanna feed em now, but the containers still feel heavy, and I don't want to run into an over watering problem, sometimes this shit can be a double edged sword, ya know....

Move your ph up to 6.3 to 6.8, even up to 7.0 but that's on the high side imo but some like it there.. Your ph is low for soil and may be causing nute lock out due to it and causing the problems. Add CalMag at 2ml/gallon of water. I love liquid Karma at 10ml/gallon too. No need to add molasses every watering. Once every 3rd watering should be good enough to feed the micro herd.

And this one, post #5 has a hydro and soil ph chart-

I love this site. Thanks all for the info and kind words. I'm gonna move it up to 6.5-6.8 next feeding. I definitely think it's a ph issue. Kinda stupid on my behalf..... Thanks again to all that replied.
