atleast you tried. I was going to do the same thing 2 years ago and figured the time it would take to make, time to work the kinks out, and hoping it actually worked, i just decided to buy one. I've seen some real ghetto ones in my time that looked like a Goodwill special but most didn't last long lol.
I made mine from 2 plastic rings you would find in a hobby store for embroidering(old lady craft). Basiclly just 2 circles held together with a tension screw. just put the screen between the 2 rings when they were loose and tighten them down.now you have a cylinder of screen with an open flap down one side(make sure it overlaps). Then I just used small gauge hemp to sew the screen together. After that you have a solid cylinder with open ends which could be closed in any way which allows for at least one side to be opened and closed. I just ran a long, thick dowl rod through the middle and marked off where the rings line up. Then drilled some holes in the right spot and put thiner rods through the thick one. The trick is cutting them to just the right size and drilling a very small indent into the ring...that way the sticks stay put. I closed the ends with more screen but that was probably not the best idea since kif whent everywhere. The whole thing was suspended inside of a giant rubbermaid container and where the dowl rod stuck out I used a drill to turn it. the problem with that was the drill moved too fast and so I would just tie a rope around the trigger and stick random objects inbetween the rope and drill so it would just barely rotate, which still was quite fast. You wouldnt believe the amount of kif I was yielding. I tried to use a rotiserie motor instead and it seemed to work much better for high quality kif, but shortly after that I had to scrap the whole project. I had a bunch of pics up on OG. I will try and find some pics of that as it was most excellent.
vanillagorilla has the right idea! that is the only pics I have seen of anyone having as much kif as I have from a homemade tumbler. It is a very nice feeling to have an entire tupperware container or quart mason jar filled with kif!!!
he has better access to tools... and he has some techniques that require training... like setting in the screen. I've seen that (even posted there) but thanks for the thought
