Odor control.

the Lion is going Guerrilla...
Well, I'm expanding shop so I need to find a rock solid method of odor control. I'm going to have chambers on flips with SS2's, with one strong ass exhaust fan exhausting them both... Probably a 12 incher. It's gonna be pulled to an upper floor and exhausted even further into an upper unused level. I was thinking inline carbon filter but they're hard to find and I don't know exactly how to build one, even though I'm sure I could if I had the plans... So yeah, just how effective are ozone generators and could I get away with a non inline one? I was thinking of putting one of those Uvonair 5000's at the end of the duct run... The upper level is probably less than 4000 cubic feet, haven't busted out the measuring tape. Anybody got any experience with these? Suggestions, hate, whatever? Help me out yo...

DAMN, those are nice. I've seen filters like this before but I forgot all about them. Seems like they're all up in Eh Land though? Gonna look further into them but feel free to chime in people, need your help.

If I were to use this type of filter, I'd have to push through it. I could just buy one of these... I think I've built enough shit to justify taking a break from it. Running dehumidifiers fulltime also adds up on the electric bill, so I'm not sure if I want to keep on using carbon filters just yet... I'm sure I'm going to be pumping out a lot of humidity. I do like the ones Dongle posted though, surely using both carbon filters and ozone would be the most rock solid method. I have no idea how well ozone works though and apparently nobody here has used it?

Thanks for the link though, very good DIY.

Is there any reason you can't buy and use off the shelf carbon filters? They've come down in price quite a bit over the last 5 years.
As for ozone, since you are exhausting into unused upper-floor areas, why not simply place the O3 generators there? You can size each of them to suit the volume of the area it's in.
You'll probably need to deal with moisture buildup as well--you can cause some serious damage if you don't remove the water you're dumping into the building with the exhaust. A properly sized, 24/7 dehumidifier in each upper-floor area will be essential.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I'm taking what you've all said into consideration and I'ma stick with carbon filters but add a couple OZN-Jr's on the upper level. I can control heat on the different floors so what I'm gonna do is get some of those tight knit privacy blinds and keep windows partially open at all times. Nobody is gonna notice and even if they did they wouldn't trip, can't get up there either...

If I can't find a good inline or find means to build one, I'll probably be forced to push through the filter. Total first for me, so I hope it don't reduce too much CFM. Can't really go bigger than a 12 inch and I think I'm gonna be cutting it pretty close... I've seen an inline filter thread but I think someone was saying the dude's design wasn't gonna work. Is there really much a difference? Like I said before though, the ones Dongle posted up are really nice...

fvk, I think you are on the right path, carbon filters AND Ozone upstairs.... a double layer of protection against problems with a grow you do not want to get caught with.

power cuts can be nasty ... fans stop working and smells start leaking.... generators or UPS boxes can be handy as backup against the unexpected.

Small generator to keep odor control going on the upper level is the plan... My plants can deal with blackouts. Good looking man though man. By UPS boxes, do you mean United Parcel Service? Lol, nah I'm just playing but that was the first thing that came to mind. I was like what dude? Thanks guys, and if anyone else has anything to add, feel free.

Making a filter with easy changeable carbon would last forever.I made one with a 550 cfm fan that pulls the air through a metal vegtable strainer.Like a metal pot with holes in the bottom.A plastic mixing bowl on the bottom with intake hole and duct attached

When the carbon goes bad ,theirs a little door on the side of the box above it,that i can reach in with a long object and stir the carbon around in the pot.And yer good to go some more. When stiring stops working ,and carbon no longer works, disassemble and replace the carbon in pot with a small cup.Works great and never wears out, except the carbon of course..just an idea..

1 box of carbon 12lbs is $20.00.You can fill it 2 times per box .So its only $10.00 to fill each time...

hi fvk

naaah ! UPS means Uninterruptable Power supply ... a posh way of saying "battery" .. these are boxes you plug your PC into so when the mains power goes off, it still powers the PC for the next 30 minutes, bigger ones are available for servers..... Not sure what a ozone generator uses, but probably far less than a 400W PSU [computer power supply]

It just really stuck in my mind the story of a big house that came on top because of a power cut... and the local area starting to STINK.... for $100 there is a fix...... Computer systems have "redundancy" .... parts that carry on when plan a] fails ... expensive servers have spare processors and motherboards that fire up if the main one fails, a bit OTT, but good practice to think about stuff like this [as you clearly are] when designing a room.

Damn, you know, I'm gonna look more into that. I suppose it'd be a lot easier than rigging up the generator. THANKS dude, good looking yo.
