Ocean Forest by FoxFarm - Advice?

Hey Guys,

Just picked up a bag of this stuff for the first time - any of you add anything to it? Any problems with it you've noticed? What do you like about it?

I'm going to be planting 4-5 seedling of feminised NL from Female seeds once the germ in rockwool - I'll be planting the rockwool in the soil. I'll start in 16 oz cups then transfer them to 1L pots then to 1 gal pots and so forth.

I'll be feeding probably only once a week - maybe every two waterings - withGH FloraNova grow & bloom, Superthrive and Botanicare SWEET. I will onlyu use SWEET and Superthrive during veg and then throw in Grow during the transition week btwn veg n bloom - then it will be stricly SWEET n Bloom for about 5-6 weeks of flower, then flush.

Toodles

This is great soil!! You really dont need to add anything. But I usually add one small bag of perlite to each bag of FFOF, for increased aeration. You won't need any nutes for a couple of weeks after you put the babies into this soil.

Hello all,

I have been using FFOF for just over two months now and my first harvest with it is coming up this Sunday.

Anyway, it is great soil. But for me, after about 4 weeks- you need to start with ferts-I was in the third week of flowering when the soil bottomed out on N and I was not expecting this so I had N def issues from the middle of flowering to the last few weeks when I stopped trying to fight it.

At the moment, I have two Afghani's in two gallons of:

50% FFOF
20% EWC
30% perlite (chuncky)
1 tbsn/gallon Dolomite lime.

They have been in this soil for 4 weeks now and I am seeing some yellowing- but it is 4 weeks into flower and this is expected. I did however feed more N to this set of girls then the last.

Some folks have all kinds of admendments to FFOF also, its a matter of preference.

Good luck

Here's another sworn testimonial for Fox Farm's Ocean Forest; it's the shit!

During my first grow I struggled with nute deficiencies (along with all the other assorted newb problems), but for my second grow I switched to FFOF and the difference was like night and day. Just started feeding within 2 or 3 weeks of a transplant to FFOF and you will do no wrong. I'm on my 3rd grow now, but I have to say, if I'd been using Fox Farm's for my first grow then I'd have saved myself a lot of trouble, and would've yielded more bud.

First Grow - Nirvana's NL, in basic potting soil, and later in Miracle Grow moisture control...used assorted nutes. One plant yielded just a little over an oz of dried bud. (This was under a 150hps and a 100w mh)

2nd Grow- Nirvana's NL, FFOF soil, FF Grow Big, Big Bloom, and Tiger Bloom. Under the same 250W mixed spectrum, same strain, I did over a quarter LB of dried bud off one plant. (ok, the second grow was also a scrog). Still, I say you can't go wrong with Ocean Forest. I mix it with about 25%-30% perlite, and my girl(s) just love it.

Peace
V

Thanks guys!

That's what I wanted to hear (of course) !

I'm only going to add Perlite to it and won't begin ferting until transition state btwn veg and flower - unless I see problems.

I will use Botanicare's SWEET through the veg cycle, though, probably starting after 2 weeks of 18/6 as well as a drop of superthrive.

I plan on taking clones of all 4-5 plants right before bloom - so that I can choose the best pheno to be mother afterwards and grow out clones from it.
---> Any of you grow clones in OF in 1gal pots of smaller? I want to do 10 2-liter pots in my cab, hoping for 14g per plant.

I do...These pots are a bit smaller than one gallons.

14 grams is very achievable...IF you have the right light, strain, nutes, etc...

I can get (9) clones supercropped in my c13 under 450 watts hps...and i run ffof/perlite/ff nutes.

get the right strain and pheno...and you can get to those goals. (easy)

my TFB pheno will yield close to (2) OZ'S each from clones

good luck

this is exactly what I do as well.

Awesome guys,

I am pumped now to try this out!

YUKON - What size pots do you grow your clones in? What strain is that you're growin' out?

KOKUA - What's your veg time for your clones? Do you run SOG? What strain is that?

My cab is completely finished, I just added a layer of mylar on the inside of the doors and fixed some light leaks...LIGHT TIGHT BABY!!!

I've got it in a room right now with no air conditioning jsut to have it run so I can monitor temp variations between the inside and outside of the cab...so far inside temps haven't jumped more than 2 degrees F more than the outside, which is a pretty good sign. I'll be running it at night with air conditioning, so I have a feeling that the inside temps will be right on with the air conditioned room temps ~ about 70F.

This fall and winter I will put it back in teh room with no airconditioning right now, and deny the room heat - that way it'll get nice and cool in the cab 24/7...expecting some purple buds this winter.

Anyone use SWEET with their FFof medium?

Sweet is used to replace nitrogen during the flowering stages. This way your smoke wont have a green [chlorophyll] taste to it. Nitrogen contains compounds such as amino acids, proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids, and vitamins/hormones. So when you get rid of N during the flowering stage you use Sweet to supplement N. It can also be used through all stages of growth but I dont recommend this. Whatever is best for you.
Vegg Phase: 10ml/1 gall of water
Trans Phase:10-15ml/1 gall of water
Fruit/flowering Phase: 15-20ml/1 gall of water

I don't get it, Smokey -

N make bud taste green, yet SWEET is suppoed to make it not taste so green. How does that work? Is it just the form in which SWEET delivers N to the plants? As long as it doesn't deliver N in the form of NO3 then I guess that makes sense - doesn't say on the Botanicare website that it contains N in the form of Nitrates.

Why ddo you not reccomend SWEET during veg? Or is it just in veg in FFOF?

I don't know if you would even consider it a veg really. Clones usually take 7-10 days to root good under the dome, I transplant and usually give them 7 days to root into the soil, then they go straight into flower. There is a window of time when the plant is first put into the container, when it spends all of its energy growing roots and establishing itself before it actually starts growing. I try to catch the plants when they are at the end of that window. If I put them into flower too soon, then I will get a 6" plant with one bud...If I put them in too late, They turn into full grown plants and I loose the SOG effect. Timing is very important and is what I am working on right now:)

SOG all the way...I can fit 4 of those containers in one square foot. That particular strain is Sour Diesel, but I have found that anything will work for SOG, other than straight sativa's, as long as you get your timing right.

Anyone use SWEET with their FFof medium?

Lots of people do...I don't personally use it.

I've been using ocean forest for years dont forget to use 1 tbls dolomite lime per gallon soil mix its not nearly as acidy as promix but your soil ph may well fall below 6 in flower if you neglect the lime
