First off, I'm going to apologize to because my digital camera skills do NOT do justice to this herb. (any picture taking tips would be greatly appreciated...)
I germed 4 seeds, of which all 4 sprouted. As seedlings, 1 died of thirst, another of heat, luckily the two survivors turned out to be female. A very hearty strain despite my neglect early on...
I grew in 5 gal containers of ocean forest soil with a combination of both earth juice and fox farm organic ferts. Vegged 45 days, flowered 58 all under 430/w HPS. I was blessed with 2 distinct phenos:
pheno1: single cola, branchy, good calyx to leaf ratio, very frosty
pheno2: double cola (as if FIM), stout, waxy emerald green fans, tight, dense buds, high calyx to leaf ratio, glistening with sugar
Aroma: During veg, the smell was stronger than I had anticipated, I should have concidered myself warned. During flower, the smell changed to a stronger piney scent with undertones of what I can only sumise is the diesel smell I've always heard about. The aroma has matured over the past 30 days of curing into what now smells like a pine scented air freshener that was doused with high octane fuel.
I'm not kidding when I tell you that merely opening the jar long enough to exchange air (10 minutes), will stink up my: kitchen, dining room and living room for about an hour. During flower, these two plants overwhelmed my can66. I ended up purchasing an ozone generator in a vein attempt at keeping my sanity until this stuff could be jarred.
Taste: A dry toke from a joint will make your saliva glands perk up and stand at attention. The flavor is more fuel with pine undertones which is the complete opposite of the smell. Depending on how far I get with a joint, it can take on a hashy taste towards the end as the high tric count leaves an awful lot of resin behind.
High: Don't make any plans for a while, you're going to be busy... My first taste was right here in this chair playing a first person shooter at around 11:30pm. 3am rolls around and it felt like maybe 30-45 minutes had passed by. I was completely in love and wished I had the time back to do all over again! The next time I smoked was with a friend at his house after a party. Needless to say he smoked himself out (1/2 joint) or so I thought, and had spent a few hours with his eyes closed enjoying his thoughts immensely. I on the other hand had a magnificent time socializing and enjoying others' company.
Final thoughts: For me, my first exposure to any of the "diesel" family lived up to my expectations. The strongest stuff I'd ever smoked coming in to this review was some C99 f2's I'd grown out last year. The down side of the soaring C99 high for me was the paranoia and anxiety that came along with it. NYCD x G13 had all the same pros and none of the cons. Taste aside (I generally prefer fruity strains), I think this strain an excellent choice for enhancing a social function or crawling inside your own head to explore what makes you tick. I took a clone of both phenos and will hopefully be able to put up some better pics of each in a month or so.
