Nutes in Bubblecloner???

Ok, heres the deal, I've got a homemade bubblecloner, just some airstones in a tub really. The thing is when I put cuttings in there they exhibit various deficiencies by the time they are rooted, some of them are severe symptoms.

It seems like sitting in all that distilled water sort of leaches the vital juices, phloem etc, out of the cuts resulting in starving yellow cuttings. Once they get planted again they seem to take hold fine but I would like to try and keep them nice and healthy throughout.

Do you guys put any nutrients in your bubblecloners, its essentially a small DWC right??
If so what nutes would you reccomend and if not how do you keep your clones nice and green??

any help greatly appreciated

nutes aren't necessary for rooting. try plain tap water or something, i dunno. if you do use some nutes i'd say just try a very dilute solution.

honestly if they're rooting and taking hold after you put them under the "big" light i'd say it's not a big deal.

I think use tap water only and move the cuttings immedietely when they root to their permanent home and give them some fertilizer then.

I try to feed the clone donor a few hours before I take clones, so they have absorbed some fresh N to hold them over. In general, this works better than when I forget.

back when I used a bubblecloner, I ALWAYS had the same problem. By the time the cuts were well rooted, they looked like shit. I would generally lose at least 1/3 of the ones that rooted. I always used tap water too. Not sure what the deal was really.

Keeping a small submersable aquarium heater in my bubble cloner helps a bunch! I use a timer to turn on and off every 15 minutes, teps flux between 75F and 85F. What temp do you keep your water in the bubble cloner?

I use tapwater, and then spray clones down with dutch master APS or advanced nutrietes Jump Start.

They are designed to feed your cuttings through the leaves so the plant still acts like it has a root system still feeding it. I have found that the happier the plant the faster/healthier the clone roots

What I do, Is spray my mommas down with some Anti-Wilt by Vita Grow the day before I take my cuttings. I usually use Rapid Rooter starter plugs, "I Think there the best" but rockwool cubes work fine too, if you prep them a little.

Then after putting them in my cloner, "It to is a little something I've put together myself" "Da 220". I spray my baby girls with some Olivias Cloning Solution a couple times a day, making sure I get the undersides of the leaves real good. By the way, I've never ever used a dome.

It is an aircooled system, constant of 78F

Oh and they sit adjacent my mommas getting off set lighting from the 400 watt Hortilux lamp.

Success rate usually 100%

There ARE other important factors that u must consider when taking your cuttings. U just cant wak um and stick um in sumthin.

1. Sterilize your blades, ALWAYS. I keep a supply and dump them in a jar of alcohol before using.

2. Use a good rooting hormone. I use Olivias Gel & Schultz's Powder, either or, they both work great. Note: if u use a powder. Pop the stem once u dip it before setting in your medium. Meaning dont let a clump of it form on the stem "it does" and causes and abnormality in the initial root growth.

3. Root Zone TEMP MUST BE BETWEEN 75f and 85f degrees. "After experimenting for many years. I keep mine @ 78f. " I find this to be the #1 problem with most others systems. Gotta keep that rez cooled. The bigga the hardda to do dat. But once u figure it out. :woohoo:

Another little trick I use. Is very delicately scraping away about a half inch of one side of the exterior of the stem skin, it allows for a little quicker root start. Check it OUT. It works.

This dosen't have anything to do with your question but since Im feelin good.

That little scraping the stem bit above. Will cut your crop drying time in HALF if u scrape away that exterior skin as much as u can before u hang the girls, and has NO EFFECT on quality.

Well Northern Lights always did put me in the zone I like to stay Inn.

Enjoy. :lurk: Bozzy

Bozzy, interesting idea there. I live in <25%RH so if anything Im trying to make my dry times longer.

Thanks for all the great replies guys! I've used tap before and it doesn't seem to be a big difference, I think Imma try making sure my momma is well fed before taking the cuts and if need be give them a very dilute solution, temps are definantly in range. If you got any more ideas or methods that work for ya keep em coming.

Thowywowy- I too live in very low RH, although its thunderstorming today!! One way to stretch your drying is to leave the whole plant on its stems. So just take all the fans off and then leave all the buds attached to the stems and hang the whole plant. I Find that more stem makes drying significantly longer.

I use a very dilute sulution of Liquid Karma after applying Olivia's cloning gell to the scraped nodes.
Any one else?

Ha, funny you should say that because thats exactly how I do it too. The more stem you leave, the more moisture you get for sure. Still for me they are crisp within 3 days tops. What I end up having to do, is jar them up WAY to early to release some of the moisture from the middle, then take them out of the jars and put them into paper bags. However if you forget about them in the jars, even for just a few hours too long, you ruin your crop. But if you do it right, it prolongs the drying process another 3-5 days.

In all reality, its a nice problem to have though. My bud is usually smokable (meaning it will burn) within 2 days of chopping. Great for when you forgot to grow enough last run and have been fiending for some nugs for a few weeks/months.
