nowhere to vent to! recirculate air through filter?

hi i have a 3m x 2.5m room that i am going to put 2400w of light, i also have a 16000btu portable split ac to cool it with because of my limited venting options.

my problem is that i have nowhere to exhaust the scrubbed air to as i am in an apartment. i know apartments aren't the best places to grow but this one's pretty secure......

what i would like to know is if i ran a fan & filter just recirculating the air inside the grow room through the filter would the smell from my grow be contained? what size would the fan/ filter combo need to be cfm wise?

from what i have read 3500btu's are required to deal with 1000w i have 2400w plus fans, pumps ect. so i am sure the AC can deal with the heat but will the smell be contained?

i can draw in air from inside my apartment for fresh air/co2, just don't have the $$$ for co2 set up!

so would do you guys think? is the ac and recirculating fan filter combo a winner?

As I recall, 1 watt=3.413/btu. You have 2400 watts x 3.413=8,191/btu.

Allowing for bulb/ ballast heat, and heat from fan motors, outside air infiltration, etc. it appears your 16,000btu a/c unit will handle it just fine.

I use a carbon filter w/8" Elicient in-line pulling air and discharging back into the grow room. Odor negligible.

Also, the hoods are air cooled, pulling from and discharging to the outside. You need a quality airtight hood for this as you do not want any air from your room to be exhausted that is not scrubbed first.

In so far as ambient CO2, you should have enough structural leakage to allow for your plants CO2 needs, unless you got trigger happy with a caulking gun and duct tape.

When the time comes that you can afford CO2 system/controls you will be in business.

Sounds like you have it well underway,

hi ty-stick,

great to hear from someone who runs this in the real world as apposed to theory... there used to be a grower called krusty whom advocted this within a sealed room enviornment, but i wasn't sure if it was good for my situation.

i don't have cooled lights either... i have estimated my total electrical use from grow equipment to be 3500w max inc ac. the ac is rated for 4800w so i think i should be ok with the heat as you point out.

so you don't think i will need to pull air into the room via a fan for co2? i won't be sealing at all if the recirc fan/filter combo takes care of smell... the fan is oversized @ 765cfm with matching filter so no need to seal if co2 can be provided from incoming air via leakage eh?! i got a controller that can handle the ac so that will be cool as well hopefully.

oh yeah, this will be a one off grow to supply me for a while!!! :joint::rasta::yes: so co2 may come in when this batch is done & smoked... i intend to yield real well so it should last sometime.

thanks for your input bro, you have put my mind at some ease.... time to test out the theory now then.

Re: CO2, at sea level atmospheric pressure is 14.7 PSI, unless your grow area is air tight you should have no problem. A filtered passive intake works well if you are worried about fresh air/external CO2 source.

Hey memetic------looks to me like you have it going the right way. Remember, don't over water/fert and you don't have to watch them24/7----take some time off.

Also, I keep one low performance fan going 24/7 to insure that stratification of gases does not occur in the grow or flower rooms.

thanks meduzer, the apartment is very large and secure too.... power has been steadily increased over last few months with no red flag as far as i can tell (no raid, inspection, electric ect). i am also only doing 1 grow in here as it's all i need for a while, by whoch time i will be in a house............

thanks for your concern all the same it's appreciated, and i accept it is quite a bit of power for an apartment.

vent the ehat into attick pull through the carbon scrubber then cooltubes or air cooled hoods then vent right into attick now your not pumpn hot air around in the room. i vent into attick and approx 2ft from my front door to house ya dont smell anything till the closet door is opened. is your a/c portable or window if portable you'll also want to vent its heat into attick

hi major,

there is no real 'attic' to vent into just the space between my ceiling and the apartment's roof. There are some airbricks located above my windows and other place around the apartments so i assume air is dispersed via these. venting into this space will be ok, although airflow will be restricted for sure.

my ac is a split mini portable.... basically the same as central ac with the condensor & unit being seperate.

i guess it will be a combo of restrcited air extraction & ac when temps peak @28/29c. this will hopefully do the trick:yes: no money for aircooled lights, so i'll have to pass on that one... although i seen these spinning lights that cool themselves & are supposed to raaawwk.... too much products and not enough $$$

thanks for stopping in!
