Lookin good! I hear you about worrying. I do that all the time. Larry OG is so nice, excited for you. Glad to hear you were able to deal with the stretch! You notice the DWC plants being more vigorous?

Don't really see much difference between the 2 at this point. However I had some problems with my timer on my E&F that caused some delays in root development and added some stress. Just some typical newbie wrinkles to iron out. When I get it dialed in a little better and am working with clones from the same Mom I will have a more accurate comparison. The ease of use and the mobility of the Hempy bucket is super appealing to me. With the perlite/vermiculite combo the medium is so fluffy I envision a root structure very similar to DWC. I am thinking of making one of the Hempy's a recirculating system. Attach a pump to take water from the bottom res and drip it into the top. Would keep that water super oxygenated at all times i'm thinking.

Here is another shot of my canopy. Do you guys think I should be defoliating to allow better light penetration?

Day 29 12/12

Day 29 12/12

Update. Flowering looking pretty good. Getting some problems from some buds being too close to the light and getting some clawing of leaves that I am unsure of the cause. I am thinking heat/humidity issues or nitrogen overload. Also took all the cuts for the next round yesterday and most of my seeds sprouted. So I will be running 3 different strains next flowering period. Here is the scrog canopy from today.

Buds starting to add some weight. Seems to be looking good. Comments? Questions? Advice? All is welcome.

Love the SCROG. Do you find it difficult flowering out multiple strains because of different feeding schedules? Indica plants eating more and all... Wish I had the answer to your defoliation question. I've been running into that dilemma recently as well.

I feel like I really screwed up the scrog. Not what I was anticipating at all. I thought it would be much more controlled and all the buds would be closer to the screen. The stretch got away from me. But the vertical trellis seems much easier to maintain. I don't know about the multiple strains question. This will be my first try mixing. I will however keep them in isolated systems. So that I can make adjustments. I think I will run 6 plants, 2 each of Vortex, Larry Og and GDP. I will be running Hempy buckets and DWC. The more I think on it the more willing I am to sacrifice speedier growth to eliminate my air/water pumps.... I am going to play around a bit with techniques to see if I can land on the perfect combo for me.

As for defoliation, I have been kinda half assing it. Plucking leaves here and there but not an overall genocide of fan leaves. The logic I guess to pluck leaves is to get more light on each bud site, however I have noticed that some of my bud sites that are on the perimeter and getting less light than other buds are equally large and well developed. So the notion that a bud wont swell without plenty of direct light is certainly in question in my mind.

pretty cool to be able to rely on experts to guide you through your grow. how did you choose your strains for the grow?

hey Sahd looking good haven't checked in here in awhile...look like those ladies really started to grow huh ,,, as far as the defolition thing I would just take enough where humidity isn't an issue so you won't have problems with mold you know.

Unfortunately the mentor that was guiding me had to bail due to life circumstances, so I been figuring it out on my own for the most part. Probably shoulda changed the thread a while ago might get a little more traffic with a cooler name.

Learning a lot as I go, unfortunately I think my yield is going to suffer, I still have a few weeks to go so hopefully the buds really swell up the next couple.

I picked my strain kinda at random by what I had available around me. Vortex was a CC winner so I figured it would be as good as any to get me started. This next round will be GDP (I just love the purps), Larry OG from Cali Connect and I will run my Vortex again as I am more familiar with it than when I started and that will allow me to develop my skills further.

All Vert trellises for me from here on out. I am also toying with an idea... Actually I am a little obsessed with it. Just haven't quite figured out how to execute it. Keep tuned in, I may dazzle and amaze.

Larry OG, yummyyy Those GDP's are gonna eat WAYYYYY more lol. It's all about learning man, I love your attitude it rubs off on me. Good idea running that Vortex again. I believe it takes a few runs with a girl to dial her in.

I am ready to be dazzled and amazed, my friend! You've got super good attention to detail.

p.s. Thanks for the help over on my thread.

snype ditched you... silly w/e him n his girl hit some drama and sure enough it fucked up his flow.

Nice grow brotehr - feel you about the back and the scrog - fuckin circus show some times LOL

You got some stretchers on your hands! Hope they fill out.

TBH DWC seems like way too much fuss - what you think vs say your hempy buckets- those are way chiller imo

if you need help or have questions feel free to PM :)

hey, thx for the reply. looking forward to what you come up with. I'm on a steep steep learning curve. the process has changed a lot from when i put a seed in a cup of soil on my windowsill when i was in 10th grade. course that didn't work too well, so, i'm here to learn. being moderately ADD doesn't help though. i get pulled away into other interesting paths so easily.

good luck on this and your future harvests.

Hey I hear you on the ADD. I have been growing indoors less than 6 months (since I was a kid in 10th grade too). These past 6 months has sent me all over the place, imagining this and that, trying to create a system that works real good for me. I think for my purposes I agree with LyryC that DWC is way too fussy. I think it works really well for Snype because he is on a production scale far beyond what I am after. For me I think I will just sacrifice a little for the added comfort and ease of a less fussy system.....

To me that seems to be Hempy buckets and a vertical trellis. With perlite/vermiculite combo the medium is inert so no concerns of pest infections in the bag. It is super light which is nice. I think I will also just compost the root ball as adding the vermiculite and perlite to my compost heap will just fluff the hell out of it which is great.... especially for my carrot bed. That being said I think I will be adding on a little somethin to my Hempy's to super charge them. Maybe recirculating system? Not so sure yet hehe there goes my add again. I can't really give up on DWC entirely though as I have all the equipment and the $/time spent on it.

update day 36 12/12

update day 36 12/12

Weekly update. Buds filling in. Hoping they fill in a bunch more as they are pretty damn fluffy right now. Feeling kind of stressed as to what kind of yield I will get. Maybe the plants are feeling it to, because WTF is this???

it is a bud growing out of a leaf.... Thats what it is. Picture is kind of bad but that is a bud growing on the leaf... at the end of the leaf stem where all the blades connect to the stem there is a bud! It is the same on the opposite branch on the same plant. I have never seen this before. Anyone else?? I will try and get a better picture at lights on. Here is a picture of the canopy from this morning as well.

Thanks for lookin in on me! Peace

looks great man!

looks great man!

Dude everything looks fine! frost on your fan leaves is a great sign :good:

You still have time to go - if you take them 70 days thats only half way!

I've seen a calyx grow out of hte petiole of a fan leaf before in another thread.

Some plants look like the leaves are clawed - do you know what thats about?

And don't stress man - you have such a blessing to tend such an awesome garden!

Keep up the good work and good vibes for your girls brother and they'll pay you back later with more love :)

If you need help holler man - Just shoot me a PM :joint: I'm on too much :D

Hey thanks for stopping in. Supposedly Vortex is an 8 week strain so that really only leaves me 2 weeks to finish. I haven't scoped them yet but still mostly white hairs so didnt feel the need plus I gotta dig out my microscope. Thinking about ordering one of those USB microscopes.

The clawing- I think is probably heat stress (or too much Nitrogen, or VPD, or....) I figure the main thing I screwed up on was maintaining the canopy w/ the scrog so everything got fucked up. Things got too close to the light. This tweeked them out (I think this is the answer anyway). So in the pics here you will see I have foxtailing, and flarfing in the primary colas. Very loose buds. Inexperience with scrogging. The vert screen looks better.

The only plant that has really nice buds is VX #7 (Lucille) she was the sickest and weakest all along and would have been thrown out if I didn't get my second light. She is smaller than the rest but her buds are nicely formed, compact and pretty copious.

You are right about not getting stressed out. Can't hit a homer first time at bat. The frost on the puny foxtailed nugs is insane! I'll take a closeup at lights on. Gourmet shit! I will definitely get some quality smoke. Cook up the rest I guess.

The other variable is TGA genetics have variable reviews. Especially when it comes to consistency. I will certainly keep growing this strain to see if I can work out her quirks and bring the best out of her. She has a funky sweet kinda aroma. Not overpowering but appealing for sure.

Thx for offer of help. I will definitely take you up on it.

You've got a great attitude. I should learn from it. The whole scrog thing seems tricky if you don't know your strain well (as you said). That's great that you'll have some tasty to smoke on! That vert screen is really cool, man.

Day 49 12/12

Day 49 12/12

Flush time! Vortex is 55 day strain so I got 1 week to go give or take. I will take a staggered harvest to let everything finish out as much as it needs. Some of the buds have filled out pretty good. Not as good as I hoped but not as bad as I feared. I guess I will know shortly after harvest. Have a bunch of plants in various stages of Veg so I am ready to go with my next round as soon as the room is clear...... But I think I am going to build a new larger room to create my new design. Haven't ironed out all the wrinkles so stay tuned for details... On to pics.

First pic is the best section of my vert screen, lotsa decent sized buds all packed together. Second pic is the Scrog canopy. Third is a foxtailed cola covered in frost, you can see it has some bleaching from being too close to the light and a little nute burn from when I added in the koolbloom. Last pic is what would be the largest cola if it wasn't super flarfly. I'll name her flarfegnugan.

Well I had envisioned more tops packed closer to the screen. It just couldn't be done the way I was doing it. Must have made some kind of mistakes along the way. Not too worried though because I can't do horizontal scrog again. My back refuses.

WORD. Every time I think about doing another horizontal ScrOG, I take two bonghits and lie down until I'm thinking clearly again.

Things look good in the neighborhood! In your shoes I would have defoliated quite a bit more, over time. Never all at once, if it can be avoided.

The way to avoid lots of loose and larfy bud is by cleaning up growth beneath the trellis, aka 'shaving their legs'. It works on dense vertical canopy growth, too, just remove the branches that have no place to stick through the trellis to the inside.

Plants put on their best weight right before harvest. That's why chopping a week early is sooooo expensive...

Man you put too much on your plate! hahah thats good tho - going ot condition you for later.

Definitely defoliate a bit more if you can and try to train thru veg for structure.

Med-Man has some very good guides that can be found in his sub forum and you can grow like a pro in no time!

For stretching colas liek that super big foxtail top - you can bend those tops down - NICE AND SLOW so they don't snap but bend at one point and bend it down - pointing at hte ground - the plant will pick the top up and heal and the bottom stuff will fill in more while the top cola still fills up but more so on the top than the bottom.

Shoot us picks of your space when you have it cleaned up and empty cause the HPS is hard to see with.

Looks good and like you got some work ahead of you man!

I'm in the same boat about too much stuff in my space lol - watch how my shit turns into a jungle :D
