YEAH UM,
just found your thread, that Papaya was a job well done. I suspect you underestimated the yield though. Personally I never used the perlite/vermiculite additions to the compost I use, I never really understood why anyone did. It's got no nutes in it, and holds lots of water next to the root, but lots of peeps do use it I know. Anyhow, hope the outdoor grow goes well.

 hi bongasaurus and GMT

I can't really defend using perlite because there is alot I don't understand :D. I think it is supposed to make your mix less dense and prevent compaction for more O2  I think it is good for me to use because it is inert and I am using hydro nutes.

My basic strategy this summer will be to keep the plants small. I don't need a big yield, and Big-ass-trees will make me too paranoid. I will try to go guerilla stealth style :chin: This will probably involve tying the plants down and planting amongst cedar trees.

This is a good picture of the local flora

I found female preflowers on another of the larger ice plants

Thanks roflnade, it is fun to do a show and tell because I can't tell anyone in real life.
here is a smiley sentence expressing how I feel.
:canabis: :jump: :noway: :badday:.

:D

Also I love being able to scroll back myself and remember all that stuff. As a newb every milestone is exciting to me.

I transplanted and started training the 2 big girls :whip:.
There were alot of roots in those little cups I wish I took a picture.

I went inside to mix up some water after transplanting and when I got back to the garage I notice some of the leaves had been eaten :yoinks:. Yep my cat decided to trim some fan leaves to expose lower budsites. I told him I was going to LST and not trim but he wouldn't listen. He took a few blades and slobbered all over the leaf. haha I am sure the plants will have to put up with worse outdoors.

It looks like the third big plant is going to turn out to be male. A shame as it is a very attractive plant.

here they are tied down. The one in the red pot has some nice lower branch development.

I know it is kind of hard to see, but the mutated leaf pattern is continuing on just that one side of the plant.

sounds like your going to struggle if your cat has developed a taste for your plants, lol.
Great a mutant, you know I love mutants. One day we'll get them to mutate so much they become a new plant, which they'll have to re legislate against, if they can.

haha he is not allowed in the room with the cab. He's probably been dying of curiosity about what smells in there and couldn't resist when he found the plants sitting there out in the open :D. He just sampled a tiny bit of each plant.

edit: Hey, since you are a mutant lover - what do you think about the growth I have seen under the coyledons? is that unusual?

unusual yes, but not unheard of. Your double leafs are more unusual though, and I think I'd be planning on making some seeds with that plant.

hmmm i guess it will not be to difficult to have a male going outdoors. I will have to think about it. I should probably keep this ice male then. :chin:

hi coloradro, thought all spiders were predators  maybe they are eating something else. You should ask in the Infirmary because I don't know the first thing about garden bugs

I also got stoned the other night and watched the first few episodes of my copy of Carl Sagans COSMOS. Did you guys know that Carl Sagan smoked pot?
YEP! And I love me some Cosmos! I have the dvd set and it's great. Excellent for those stoney nights.

Good luck with the grow, Underground.

Well after a month of vegging I have alot more biomass than I know what to do with :D :D

SHAME ON ME for letting my space get so overgrown!!! :noway: :pointlaug

This is the plant with the wierd leaves, it is easy to spot the leaf that was in my last update a month ago. This plant also has some branches with random (quad, tri, single branch, etc.) phyllotaxy.

here is the other big girl, LST is fun

I ended up with 3 phenos that are more indica-leafed

and 3 that are more sativa-ish.

I think this one is very attractive.

They smell like poop, but in a good way. :D :D I bet they are going to have a good taste. The untrained plants develop big beautiful leaves, while the lsted plants develop lots of smaller leaves. Last grow I wondered why my leaves were so small compared to pictures I had seen, now I realize it is because the plants were trained.

I think those little pots are going to crack open if I let them get any more rootbound. hehe Frankly I don't have room to put them in big pots right now. I am going to cut off the top half off of the untrained 3 and probably try to start like 4 clones from each.
8378guillotine.gif

A few times I have let them get dry and thirsty to the point of wilting and drooping over. This appears to have caused some leaf yellowing and some sort of discoloration on the older leaves. No Big.

I culled one indica-dominant individual who was just too stretchy. As an experiment I took some cuttings and put them in my ghetto perlite cloner modeled after grat3fulh3ad's design. Part of the reason I used the ice tray is because I was totally broke and only had a handful of perlite lol.

Looks like the one with one leaf is doing ok, others are not so good. Next cuttings I take will all have one leaf trimmed off.

The LST'ed girls will hopefully go outside within the next week. Then I will transplant and start training down the rest. Because they will be very branchy after their beheading I think I will just stick a screen over the pots rather then tie down each branch individually lst-style.

They will stay in pots even outdoors because I want to be able to move them and keep them relatively small.

As they migrate outdoors I will start a new thread, I may decide to test the waters on another site, but no matter what I hope to continue learning from and sharing with all the kind people of IC and the rest of the cannabis forum universe

I was very excited when I dug up the good-looking cut and it had roots. What a milestone :D 1/3 success rate is fine with me for a first attempt.
:woohoo:

Cloning was not very succesful mainly I believe due to user error and imaptience. I ended up with just 3 rooted clones and yesterday I found out that 2 are males. oh well. Plants are outside and doing very well IMO.

Well for the sake of completeness I thought I'd close out this thread with some crude drawings and descriptions of some of the parts I built.

I typed this out for -ezra- who is doing a 400w halfpipe scrog much larger than mine which you should check out.
ezra, you asked how I made mine. I marked it with a carpenters square and a thing to scratch the flashing with. You can make very precise marks based on 45 and 90 degree angles with those things because the flashing has a perfectly straight edge. the pattern is two right isocoles triangles stuck onto a rectangle kind of like this <=>. Actually there are tabs that stick out 1/2 inch from each edge that bend back to give the glass something to rest against. Glass ends up sandwiched between these tabs and the 6 brackets. Cutting done with tin snips, Bending was done with C clamps, a board, a desk with a nice sharp straight edge, and some pliers. You can cut up a coffee can to make duct connections.

here is my scrubber design. Note that the drawing makes reference to a bleach bottle and a coffee can, but now I have made a much bigger scrubber out of a popcorn tin, but using the same principles. Not pictured is the cap which goes over the end you refill.

Basically what it boils down too is making a sunscrubber, but cutting up large bottle and cans to make ducting parts instead of getting them for 3$ each at home depot. The beauty part is using that "great stuff" foam sealant to attach the inner and outer core assemblies.

small coffee cans = 4 inches, large coffe cans = 6 inches, popcorn tins = 10 inches. You can make pretty much any size scrubber out of those things. You cut them up with tinsnips.

I am not sure when I will use my cabinet again. I have some stories and pics to share of my outdoor grow but I will save that for a new thread.

Well outdoor was a failure because the heat wave happened while I was unable to drive out to my site, all plants were crunchified. Next time I will use larger drip resevoirs and try to check more often. oh well.

I haven't been checking icmag as religously as I used to but I still enjoy checking back in and seeing everyone's grows. Since I've started another cycle in my cabinet I figured I'd post some updates to this thread.

I've got some jock horror going right now. Went to 12/12 on the 1st. so harvest should come around halloween :yoinks:

I made modules so I can pull out the plants to get easier access. Also I am using the big carbon scrubber. So far it has eliminated all smell, we will see if it holds through flowering.

I got 7/10 females, put the best looking 6 under the screen.

I made a cloner that uses a powerhead (no bubbles). I took a couple of cuts from each plant. Seems to work pretty well, much better than my earlier attempts.

wow the screen is much more filled out than it was with 4 papayas. the second pic is the same module after training.

they are definitely stretching and flowering

I will probably do the "final" training tonight when the light comes on :chin:

Take it from me as someone who dreamed about growing for years before doing it: START GROWING NOW! :D I am always thinking about how many harvests I could have pulled off if I had started earlier.

Yeah but the thing is that I still live with my parents... and that I didn't ask them the permission... waiting the right time I guess?... And anyway... It's not clear in my head if it's correct to grow in my parents houses... soo... will wait I guess... :badday: :badday:

Cya!
