not going 24-0 from the beginning

seedling is about 2 weeks old, I've been giving it 24-0 light, but am wondering if it will be ok to go 20-4 or 18-6 from the beginning stage and through veg., reason is that i'm out of the apt. for about 4 hours and get paranoid, I have all the safety equipment, GFCI breaker, fire sprinkler, smoke alarm, and fire extinguisher, I keep it on all night and nothing has happened, but I still get worried.

Sounds like you need to chill...lol....I think your apt. wiring is gonna last longer than you....I've always went with the 18/6 schedule for the simple reason...."If it's good enough for Mother Nature, it's good enough for me"....I know the hrs of darkness varies in nature, but we gotta get it on schedule some way or another.....Good Luck...LC

you should be fine, i switched w/o any problems on my last grow. 12/12 is pretty much the dominant reasons that a plant flowers (i know ruderlaris is the execption...) and seeing as your plant prob hasn't even decided on a sex yet you should be cool.

but you do need to relax a little, it sounds like you are prepared for an emergency and are taking preventative measures. relax a little.

if you started from 24-0 and switch to 18-6 will that be a problem? plant is still a seedling about 2 weeks old

I read somewhere that they need the dark period in their cycle and that is when they intake co2 the best and dont worry you can change the time back and forth and wont make a real difference till you change to 12/12. i used to run the 24/0 but now I am running the 20/4 with not much difference also did 18/6 no real difference but now I always give them at least a couple hours of darkness. Good Luck

i dont think plants require a dark period while in veg, although some say they do. What about plants in some office buildings where the lights are on all the time or the fact that many a grower on all these sites use the 24/0 method faithfully with great results. just my opinion

I started off with 18/6 and will the whole veg.. they seem to grow a lot taller and faster with some dark.

I agree with Jay,

Just as in an outdoor situation, the reduced hours of light will force them to stretch a bit and get taller.

The difference in lighting schedules has been the topic of debate many times.

My opinion is: if you have the head room to accomadate a larger plant, the increased darkness will have little effect, in the overall outcome.

good luck

I run 24/0 because my lights are my only source of heat and the lights on in my veg cab keep the flower cab warm when it's in darkness. If I turned off my veg lights both rooms would get too cold

Well, by the different opinons I see, I'll just say this...We're growing in an "artificial" indoor enviroment....Plants do require, what they require....On the other hand, with the artificial enviroments that we provide, we can manipulate that enviroment and the plant will "adapt" to that enviroment....So, you see, there's no set ruling on lighting as long as you provide suitable enviroments for the strain that you're growing...If you don't give the strain what it needs, it will make you suffer certain reprocussions and consequences that you may not want to suffer....For instance, you might want to grow Mr. Nices Nevile's Haze, but you might not have the time to let it go as reccomended....But Nevile's Haze will do fine on a lighting schedule of 10/14 from germination, therefore shortening harvest time by a couple of weeks....But, do that with Medicine Man and things start going wrong because there's things that you can do with sativa's that indica's won't take and visa versa....So, the bottom line is, what works for one strain, won't work for another...So, be careful what who you listen to and what you do to manipulate your strain....Always check with the breeder when possible and get his advice on his strain.....Hope this helps....LC
