Macabre plot lands Citrus County man in jail

CITRUS SPRINGS - The bizarre plot started to unfolded at 2377 W. Swanson Drive in Citrus Springs. Citrus County deputies say Kevin Wade Daley was behind it. He's accused of trying to recruit someone to commit murder.

Detectives uncovered the alleged plot following a two-week investigation. They say it started after Daley struck up a friendship with a St. Petersburg man over the internet.

"He became increasingly alarmed as the suspect our Mr. Daley was talking about coming down the St. Petersburg area to commit this crime, and then in the course of that he changed his story and said that he had targeted someone up here in Citrus County," said Gail Tierney, Citrus County Sheriff's Office spokesperson.

But detectives say even more shocking was Daley's motive.

"Homosexual necrophilia is what the purpose was. There was going to be sex acts committed on a male corpse," said Tierney.

Investigators say Daley even revealed that his intended victim was a man from Homosassa who was doing construction work in his neighborhood.

"He actually came up with his name and his place of business, and actually called the man's place of business on the prospect of saying what a good job he had done on the work he did in the neighborhood," said Tierney.

Daley's neighbors couldn't believe it.

"It's scary I got my daughter here too," said Tim Frady.

"I was glad that he didn't get to really know him on a personal level to invite him into our home," said Traci Frady.

They're thankful he's behind bars.

"He could have murdered me over there in his backyard. I'm glad he's gone we don't need that kind, that's scary, real scary," Tim Frady said. "We can sleep a lot easier knowing that he's not next door," said Traci Frady.

Police recorded Daley's phone conversations as he was talking about his plans. They also seized his home computer as evidence.

Daley is in jail with no bond.
