Northern Lights: info/pics wanted

High there, just looking for more info on what "original" NL exactly is. I only remember ever seeing some outdoors that were NL, and grown in new hampshire. It was years ago but know that I was loving it.

Now I have 8 females going, they are super short n stocky with really tight internodal spacing, with two that are slightly taller than the rest.

I always thought of NL as typically a sativa, but I guess I haven't paid enough attention to this strain because mine are seemingly indica all the way. The seeds came to me through a friend who moved to Denver and worked in a dispensary's grow. He befriended a couple of experienced middle aged growers, one of which was from maine. Being a fellow new englander he was fired up to get some NL from a Maine grower. Now I have the pleasure!

I would love to see other peoples pics of just true NL, thanks !

What breeder is yours? Every, breeders is different but most are pure indica. I think sensi seeds is #1 #2 & #3.

It takes a grown man to recognize when he's not dealing with the same.

Perhaps you've forgotten for a moment that people will click on this thread with interest.

Let's all return to the adult table... there was plenty of information on the first page.

[According to *eedfinder.eu:]

All together, there is more than only one original Northern Light line:

* NL #1: Is definitely an Afghani type indica inbred line.
* NL #2: Is a mystery, probably a mostly indica one.
* NL #5: Is the famous clone-only by Neville. The lineage is unknown - some people say its a Thai x Indica, than backcrossed to the Indica - but this is only pure speculation!

Northern Lights Marijuana History

Northern Lights Marijuana is believed to have originated in the Pacific Northwest of North America back in the 1970's around California to Seattle, USA to British Columbia, Canada. Known to be an original indica strain, schools of thought will argue for the hybrid case. Most phenotypes indicate an Afghan indica, with some Thai sativa phenotypes entering the scene later on in life because of vigorous cross breeding.
Once upon a time, back in the 1980's it was known there were eleven northern lights marijuana plants numbered #1 through #11 with #5 being the most potent. Northern Lights Marijuana #1 was an Afghan indica characterized with one main stalk, overall short compact plant with a moderate sweet smell. Northern Lights Marijuana #2 became a more sturdy, Christmas tree shape, with a more earthy odor. It is believed Thai sativa was hybridized to the strain at this point. All the other numbers were northern lights hybrids. Northern Lights Marijuana #5 is now becoming the commonly available plant and the most potent.

I found this on the strain and I have no idea how true it is.

This is a description from Classic Seeds Jacalin. Its very nice weed and he claims possibly this is where N.L. came from. Possibly ...

"original lighthouse or white light .this strain represents years of breeding ,it is a mix of kush indicas and indian indicas . i believe it was a cutting of this that became europes n.lights the time frame is right so are the locations."

Maybe Classic can chime in

The NL's are (Afghani X Thai) x Afghani according to RCC... his word is better than anyone else I know on the subject.... you guys quoting Reeferman and Nevil suggesting anything as fact give me giggles.

could, but can't say a word about RCC's theory or view but will always bow to that out of respect brah..cherrish the man and his work as well as Cherniak...I'd like to see the Thai ends but understand that is prob the 1 thing they bred away from (form wise) also to start...Im only speakin my thoughts and view...
All Im mainly saying is if someone asked what to look for in NLs...
would always advise to look for the basic cultivar it was all about...which IMO was mostly Afghan x Hindu base...and made for indoors..
peace m8...

Thanks for chiming in Chimera. I recall you claiming NL contained Thai nearly a decade ago at Overgrow. I've often wondered since what information you were basing your claim's upon as it appeared to go against the grain of popular Dutch media. I take it that it was a firsthand account or was this previously published information?

Naturally, I'm more prone as I've always been to believe the account's of actual breeder's over those of mere seed salesman. Are you able to provide any more details/insight about Hortapharm's take on NL origin's other than the pedigree you provided? I ask as I'm operating under the assumption with the information you shared that it applies to the #1 and any subsequent offering's were Dutch creation.

Regards,
Kanza

I grew out a pack of Doc Atomics last Yr, ran all Females. Found one Female I liked that was Indica dominate..Great Christmas tree profile, sturdy as hell, pine cone sized buds, bout a 6.5-7 on a potency scale. The other females were more Sativa/Thai,65/70 day finish time,Undesirable smell,8 potency.I ran my Indy Dom about three runs, then crossed her to a LUI male to hopefully kick up Potency and add some hardness to those Large buds?? I've seen the Peak seeds version growing Hydroponically and it Looks very compact and Resinous. If I ever get the kick to grow NL again, I would probably try that version..Or just grow out the cross I made..Just my two Cents!

Deep Chunk x Original Haze -F3

(I think that F1 could be a similar cross in some ways...Hindu Kush x Thai? :)
