Non-Contact Infrared Thermometers

A new way to solve common temperature measurement problems, and small enough to fit in your pocket!
The MiniTemp includes a backlit display and a Laser Point to assist in sighting your target.
The MiniTemp is perfect for auto enthusiasts and home improvement Do-It-Yourselfers... It's fast, fun and easy to use! http://www.raytek-northamerica.com/cat.html?cat_id=2.3.5&PHPSESSID=publicRaytekNorthAmerica

The best buy out there on a non contact Thermometer is the "PE-1" from Tempgun.com. 25 dollars U.S. (w/o lazer pointer)
http://www.tempgun.com/specs.html

I have a "Tempgun PE-1" and it quickly becomes indespensible. I keep Sulcatta tortoises and Bearded Dragon Lizards as a hobby and its very important to maintain proper temps in there enclosures for longterm health reasons. I can point this thermometer at them and various surfaces of their enviroment and immediately know if they're in danger of being too hot or too cold.

Are you wondering if the top of that plant is too hot, just point and shoot and get immediate temperature readout. It's a beautiful thing. :D

Radio shack has a good deal on 'em too

How are those for giving the ambient temps.?

I use them now to get surface temps off of metel and castings but I am reading an actual surface not the air.

These are real cool deals, I just wasn't sure if it would read the air temps acurately

These guys know "Super Dope" when they see it. :)

As this (unaltered) ad says these Non-Contact Thermometers are "Super Dope" for reading surface temperatures, (of say, for instance...plants) :D

Conventional Thermometers are best for Ambient Temperature readings.

We use them around the shop for keeping temperatures set correctly for equipment.

They are also useful for making sure you don't have "hot spots" showing through to the outside of your grow area that could be detected by LEO. Use the thermometer to check the roof and walls and compare temps from the grow area to temps from other areas - if temp differences are too great, you may want to add insulation & better ventilation around the grow area.

Slaps his head (why didn't I think of that, he wonders.) :D
I wanted to compliment you on how helpful (and friendly) you are around here.

thanks for the good suggestion. I'm going to pick up a laser therm. to check temps around the roof/walls.

for 25 dollars??!!! That is an incredible deal on an incredibly useful tool.....every grower should have one of these....why, you ask?.....let me count the ways...

1) Detect heat differences in walls to avoid infared LEO detection...

2) Detect "hot spots" on your plants before substantial damage occurs....

3) Determine temperature differences between canopy and root zone
which is very important for optimal growing conditions (see article
"what's the DIF" in current Weed World mag for more info....will
write up the article as soon as i buy the issue which should be soon).

4) Check out the temps around your germinating seeds so they are
not too warm and not too cold but "just right" while shelling inside
paper towels (or whichever method you prefer)...

5) Check Ballast temps before a catastrophic overheating event (rare
but has happened to a few people in these here forums)...

6) Check temperature of pizza to avoid burning one's tongue....

the list goes on and on....everyone should have one of these....

^^^ good one ben, I'll have to pick up ANOTHER freebie from work as I have 5 or 6 laying around for correcting temp offsets in machinery.
