non compete/non disclosure agreement

My wife is being asked to sign one and the circumstances are very fishy and she is the only being asked despite several other people having similar or more sensitive info.

One reason given to her was that their insurance company required it. They pull so much crap I can't believe this. I had a similar business for 15 years and never had the insurance company request anything except sales total and nature of business. Non competes never came up.

Anyone heard of this insurance line?

Not sure on the nature of the business, but I worked for a company that required it. I did leave the company and took my clients with me. Turns out all it means is you can't solicit them. If they call you and ask then I was ok to proceed. Not sure if this is the case for your wife but worth looking into. If it is an information only non-disclosure issue then my info might not apply.

I occasionally work as an independent contractor (on the side from my day job) (Software Engineering) where I may do some work on some aspect of a companies proprietary software, and always have to sign an NDA in this case.

Funny though because typically the company isn't doing anything different than anybody else. The equivalent of please don't tell anybody the new car I am building has round wheels.

I am familiar with non disclosures non solicitation etc.i6

Has anyone ever heard of an insurance company telling their client that they will give lower premiums if someone signs a non compete?

My wife has 20 years experience in this field and this agreement basically prevents her from working in the field for 3 years. It's way more than a nda. She isn't even in sales yet is the only one being asked to sign the agreement

Again my real question has anyone heard of this insurance angle? It sounds like crap to me.
