No luck with Short Stuff

I'm having no luck with Short Stuff seeds. I've gone through HBDiesel, Snowrider, RRfuel, and most recently Super Cali Haze and ended up with sprouts that have just popped their shells and died. I've been meticulous, sought out other grower's journals and mimicked their techniques exactly with painful results. I've tried to get help from the seedbanks but they seem to want nothing to do with it. Is anyone else getting the same sort of results?

Are you growing strains from elsewhere te same way as you are the Short Stuff beans? What medium are you starting them in?

my auto assasin is a beast, im more then impressed, now my himilaya blue didnt flower until 4.5 weeks which is a bit late for an auto for me, in the past i ran shortstuff one which didnt auto. i wont be messing with shortstuff anymore though, two mess ups is enough., i made the assasin seeds anyways, thanks stitch :comfort:

I leave the seeds in water for 12 to 18 hours before transferring them to water-saturated brown paper towels on a tray which I keep covered and leave in a warm drawer. I prefer seeds to have broken out of their shells completely before transferring them to soil and then place on a 25W Super Sprouter seedling heat mat. The seedlings are left about six inches beneath a 39W T5 light. I start seeds this way usually, space permitted. When I factor in how much these seeds cost me I usually give the best treatment to the more expensive varieties.

I'll take a photo of the HBDiesels tomorrow, they're kinda sad to look at.

You still didn't mention your medium. Could be too hot for little seedlings.

Medium? You mean Sunshine mix, right? The area is a little warm but there is a constant oscillating fan on. All the other plants really excel under the same conditions.

Anyway, here's a pic of the aforementioned HBDiesel.

That looks burnt to me. Autos are VERY sensitive to nutrients within the first 2-3 weeks. The best starter for autos is something that has little to no nutrition value, like a Pro-mix/vermiculite medium. What is the NPK value of Sunshine mix? I think joejusttyped meant that soil itself is "hot" or rather, nutrient rich.

Is it just #4 mix?

Those things in the pic haven't been fed anything?

Are you by chance keeping them wet, like real wet?

it could be a number of things but its deffinatly not the seeds fault. maybe your heating tray couldve killed them, maybe the brown paper towels are terrible( in which they are) maybe your soil sucks, but you know what i think? i think its all of the above.

maybe when you ruin another 100$ worth of seeds you will figure it out. Sorry to be so blunt but its not hard and you most likely ruin your seeds because you are inexperienced.

look on youtube, there is some beastly hbd grows, the plant has serious potential and youll see this if u check it out, i was shocked. but i wouldnt run it do to the diseal presence, just me i dont do odor control. your medium is no good, lighten it up, cut that with 75 percent pro mix and youll be loving it.

They looks burnt, either from excessive nutes or too much heat. Even a rapid change from high to low humidity can do that.

I second the Pro-mix, love that shit myself, just stay away from the varieties with the wetting agent added (flex and bx). Personally, the HP is tits.

Go easy with AF. Light fertilized medium is more than enough for first weeks and avoid overwatering. Its general consensus that starting AF in big pots is easier but i disagree and i think that starting in deep cups is better and helps you in even watering.

My snowryders (5) are doing pretty good if you take into account that I made every mistake in the book -overwatering, nute burn, heat burn, light burn but I didn´t manage to kill them :)
They won´t be yielding much but if well taken care of they might be interesting.

There is a fungus disease called "damping off" which grows in the top layers of the soil and kills small seedlings. When I have seeds that pop and die it is damping disease. Now that you have it the spores are everywhere. This is a common problem with gardeners starting flower and vegetable seeds. There is even a product called 'no damp' sold in garden centers. A small percentage of seeds make it but make sickly plants. I just had damping on my last batch of seedlings. That is because I re-used pots without following my proceedure.

I try to keep the seeds sterile from the start. I never handle them but use tweezers. I don't use paper towels because they breed disease. I soak the seeds in warm tap water because the chlorine kills and even change the water and leave the seeds to soak until the root is well out about 1/4 inch or a little less. Then I use tweezers to plant them. I re-use the potting mix but top it with 1 1/4 inches of seed starting mix from garden centers which is sterile and designed to fight the damping off. Several varieties were available at Rona. I don't use that as my main soil because it's not good for large pots as it is too fine.

So the problem might not be the seeds at all, but the damp that comes in the soil you buy.

You can also use the no damp, or steralize your soil in the oven (stinky).

ive found that if you over water even one time with autos early on u loose quite a bit of size, if your plants have 14-21 days to show pistils u really dont have 3-5 extra days for your girls to be in a overly wet under oxygenated medium.

Well, hey I checked out literally all my equipment, everything works normally. The mix I used for the HBDiesels was some kind of Pro-mix for general use. These plants developed slowly and never really finished. At some point before adding any nutes they had stopped entirely for some time. Right now I'm using a high porosity Pro-mix.

Good news...One of the SCHaze has miraculously clung to life. Its next to the Jock Horror Auto of the same age grown under identical conditions.

your going to kill so many plants with that attitude, i get the vibe your like one of the kindergardners with a beansprout that thinks the more you water something the bigger it will be. i dont really care im glad im not as ignorant as you at this point
